I have a small calf that has a swollen foot. It is hot and she is losing her nail. In Feb. we found her in the creek and when we got her out it was iffy that she would survive, do you think that she has foot rot or frost bite? Please help.

Coming from your part of the world I would suggest that frost bite is pretty unlikely - they do well at my place and others in some pretty heavy cold - and many are born on snow.

Foot rot is a serious potential.

Suggest you call a veterinarian - if only because there is little sense in treating something if it is a mystery.

Not to disagree with Bez, but the losing of the hoof sounds to me like the foot was frozen or injured by freezing. But the heat and swelling does sound like fooot rot. Footrot may be a complication from the freeze injury.
