One of my biggest pet peeves (and I think this was covered in another thread regarding parts) is when you break something small and cheap but the parts supplier tells you that in fact you can't buy just that part, you need the whole assembly
2017 Polaris Sportsman 450. I was carrying a calf across the seat in front of me and danged if she didn't thrash around and snap the throttle lever off at the base. Turns out Polaris makes this part out of cheap plastic, and doesn't sell it separately so you need to buy the whole assembly for the princely sum of $680 CAD.
But thanks to the internet I managed to find an aluminum billet throttle lever for about $80 but it will take a couple of weeks to get here. :bang:

I need a piece for the air system on mine. Small plastic fitting. Polaris said I would have to order a pack of 10 for $85. I used something different for $1.60

Sounds like those Polaris company people are pretty smart. They have you over a barrel, so why not make you pay and a good way to get rid of inventory. A lot of billionaires made that way. (Lots of info out there same with oil 0w-40synthetic, parts, etc)

found this info and thought I'd pass it on.
I went with the Napa Gold 1357. It's about $7. It is 3.402 long. My scrambler 1000 had enough room to except a 3.75 long filter max. From the case to the filter access door is 3.850. One other good point about the Napa filter it actually fits my 65 mm filter socket perfectly. So measure how much room you have and get the biggest filter that will fit.

These filters will fit all:
Magnum, xpedition, Trail Boss, Xplorer, Scrambler, Diesel and Sportsman models


These Oil Filters have 20 x 1.5mm threads, 14 psi by-pass valve, anti-drain back valve, 2.3" O.D. gasket 2.5" to 3.5" long.
If you have the room, I recommend the longer filters.

Well, it may help with short term sales, but long term is another deal. I don't really feel too far over the barrel as this will be the last Polaris product on the place. And in the mean time the internet will be scoured for aftermarket parts as required.

They are all the same, as far as part$, maint item$, accy$. Just gotta try and find ways around that.
I went with CanAm this time, but expect the same (over the bbl). Time will tell only have 150hrs on it.
It is an awsome machine compared to or old Polaris.

FWIW...My no frills manual Honda Ranchers have gone far beyond the call of duty, served me well, had great longevity and essentially non problematic. Precisely what I expect from my cattle. :clap:

I've driving all the brands and I put a ton of miles on them. Honda is the best of them all... Polaris is the worst. Not only did my Polaris stay in the shop, but, each time meant that I would be without for months... Not that any warranty work done is done quick in any 4wheeler shop, but, my Hondas have stayed out of the shop....
Also, polaris mechanics would tell me that i should wash off my 4wheeler daily... Who the heck has time for that..?????

I get most of my bike and ATV parts from Bikebandit.com.. Might give them a try.. I got a cylinder sleeve for my Suzuki 500 quad through them, it's a nikasil cylinder and was bagged out so I sleeved it

Mine is orange. I know when I walked out of that dealership one salesman said to another, "I thought we'd never sell that orange monster." I wanted orange because I want to be seen. Too many weekend hunters in our area who think 10 acres is big enough to shoot in any direction. And I have the only orange 4wheeler around. Right now though, its mud color/orange....

Very rarely see the Japanese quads for sale as they just keep on going.

Ya, we have 3 Hondas, the Polaris, and a Yamaha on the place. I prefer the Yamaha's for what we do, but any Japanese bikes do seem a cut above the rest.

We have one Polaris left and it will be the last also. Every time I try to take the Polaris in all they want to do is sell me another one plus there is a 3 mo or more back log. Last time the dealer called and said the Ranger was ready. They said they fixed every thing but the CV boots. The dealer said they would be about a week but they needed me to pick up the machine to make room. They wanted me to haul it back to them or pick the parts up and fix it myself. I thought I was about to go to jail. :devil2:

My die hard Polaris Ranger buddies are slowly converting to Can-Ams.

Use to have Polaris, now have a Honda. Love the Honda but I think it starts a little hard in the winter. Asked the dealer about it and they told me be glad it starts in the winter as they also sell cf moto and they apparently don't even start unless in a heated shed. According to the service guys it has to do with California emissions.

Polaris has always used plastic throttle and brake levers. The Japs always had aluminum.

Never been a fan of Polaris. The only machine that's ever left me walking.

I used Gorilla glue and stuck it back together. Been holding for a couple of days now. Hopefully it lasts until the new part comes in.
