I have 1,100 bricks left over from building my house. I always planned on building an outdoor fireplace. I even laid brick one summer as a young man. Maybe someday I will do it.

Yeah, you'll probably be 5 bricks short and have to go guy another 1000. then those 5 bricks won't quite match the others. So in the end you'll have 995 bricks left over, and a fireplace built with 5 bricks that don't match.

Mine is square on 4 legs. It has ceramic tile around the top and a screen that goes over the fire pit in the middle. Whole thing weighs about 35 lbs maybe. I save all of my dead blow down limbs from my walnut tree and burn them as I sit out at night watching the stars with AKUS on the mp3 player and an adult beverage in my hand. :drink: 8)
 
I have about 350 fire bricks that came out of the old boiler rooms at a Baytown refinery. Solid--yellow, No holes in them, and each one says "thermal" on it. I keep thinking I will build one of those old 50s style permanent bbq pits but probably never will. Me and bricklayin just don't get along--meaning I ain't worth a crap at it.

As manual labor goes laying brick is hard on you. Not to bad when you get up about 8 courses, then gets rough again when it gets high enough for scaffolding. It's a trade best suited for a little wirey person.

I just barely missed being wirey by 155 lbs lol im 6'2" 270lbs lol
