Looking to start a small scale cattle operation. Have around 10 acres of good pasture to work with and more available through lease if needed. My idea as of right now is to use my dad's jersey nursing cows (2-4) and wean higher end beef calves to sell. These cows will accept 2-3 calves at a time so I could run up to 12 calves at a time. Or would it be a better idea to start my own herd? Im not looking to make a lot of money, I just enjoy doing it and will put most of the money back into the farm. Im 22 years old and applying to med school so that plays a factor as well.
Opinion?

Nurse cow option sounds good to start, raise some calves off them, save some money from them, then you could buy other cows if you like.
