Why you don’t IMO.
I was at the local grocery store this morning. Located inside is a satellite bank branch office. Somehow the silent alarm got tripped every local city Officer on duty along with sheriff deputies came through the doors.
They had sealed the parking lot off as well, that is the last place I would want to be advertising I was armed.

I am with CB....too many of these cops today are trigger happy....hell there was a story other week where they surrounded a perp and one shot another cause he missed the perp. if they will shoot each other they darn sure will shoot me. even if I did nothing wrong...

If I was a crook the first person I’d shoot was the one that had a gun showing. Nothing wrong with open carry but you do expose yourself. I was in line awhile back and guy in front of me had one of those little Ruger .380 stuck in his back pocket where your wallet goes. You could barely see it but definitely not concealed. First thing I thought was some knuckle head that really means no harm is liable to grab it and make things get ugly in a hurry.

made me check...
my concealed carry permit which is good for five years has expired...
gotta renew that puppy but it will take two months....even though I have had it for over fifteen years they go through the whole process every time.

Advertising is as bad as open in a bad situation.
I knew several of the officers, they knew I was carrying. The problem with open IMO if something goes wrong you come across as looking for trouble no matter the incident it’s going to the grand jury.
Lots of difference in being ready to defend yourself if need be versus looking like a tough guy looking for trouble. That is what Zimmerman came off as IMO.

You either have the right, or you don't.
How you are perceived by others says way more about them than the right says about you.

but if the majority think you are wrong you still most likely to get convicted or worse.....
no matter what your rights are...
rights are only rights if you can prevail with a jury of your peers....
most juries today will not have any of my peers on it....

Most I have seen open have the look to me of wanting to be tough.
Don’t get me wrong I am for open carry as Hook stated. I open carry around the house and in the pasture. When I go to town I prefer to be more discreet. It’s about defense not trying to go tactical.

EXACTLY MY THOUGHS CB....
I often have a pistol on my hip at home....snakes and varmits of all descriptions
but not out in public....
I may have one but it is small and discrete

I don't understand wanting to open carry... but I am pro any thing like that. Its a step in the right direction even if I choose not to participate.

We had a company that we deal with a lot that used a guy to hot shot us parts that was like some kind of constable or fill in deputy or some thing but he would always have his gun on his hip. I think he blurs the lines between his job and the cc/oc stuff. Every where he went he had a gun and he just had a real cocky, kind of wanna be cowboy, feel about him.

I was at the office the first time I met him and he was very rude to me. Was calling me son and several other things I have about zero tolerance for but he had some parts we were in a bind for so I ignored it and went on. Over the next couple of months my top guys made comments about him giving them a bunch of attitude and hell also. Finally one day we had some stuff tore up and he brought some parts that were not the right parts. My guys called POed saying he was giving them all kinds of hell. I went over there and he tore in to me also and started telling me how I was going to take the parts right now so he could get going. I said about two sentences real calm before I finally tore in to him.

Long story short I told him he was the delivery driver and nothing more we would take it up with the company. He was not going to tell us what we will or will not accept. I also told him none of us out there appreciated his attitude and the man who hires him will not either after I talk to him.

He leaned back and barking some thing and put one hand on one hip and one hand on his gun. I cut him off right in the middle of what he was saying and told him don't put you hand on that gun unless you intend on using it. He started in to I wasn't going to do any thing and yall people now days see guns... blah blah blah. I told him flat out if you don't intend on using it then don't wear it out on my location. I told him you chose to slap it on your hip this morning... you chose to come out here and be an azz to all these people, you chose to lean back and put your hand on it... none of this is on us. Then I asked him to leave the location, got on the phone, and told the company he is not allowed out for our company ever again.

Im about as pro gun and comfortable with guns as you can safely get. There are major responsibilities you take on when you cc or oc... some of that is perception... especially with oc. That was your choice... its not other people fault.

I liked your post.....
that seems to be the sort that wants to open carry around here too...
I don't want to be viewed that way...

The sensible thing to do, in that situation, would be to lay the weapon down and step back. But then a criminal could pick it up and use it. Not the best situation any way you look at it.

It seems to me that every time I see a person that is OC, I don't feel comfortable around them. It's not the gun that makes me uneasy, it's the owner. I have several, one of which is loaded at all times. But what does it say about your level of paranoia that you feel so unsafe that you have to have the ultimate weapon with you 24/7? Also, I know nothing about their mental stability. Example: there was a kid on my son's football team who's father is ex-military and a stay at home dad. The wife told my wife that he is not to be disturbed while sleeping, and if you need him up you yell at him from across the room. It's obvious that this guy doesn't really have a safety switch. How many of these guys walking around with guns are the same way? What's going to trigger their PTSD? From the pictures I've seen of this guy, he appears like he was specially trained and capable of inflicting tons of fury when it's needed. I'm not sure I want to be in the room when that gets turned on.

Funny how an entire generation could control that switch. Today it’s used to demonize those that stood a wall for us.
Says it pretty plain.

My dad is that way still to this day, you don't touch him to wake him up. War does things to people that some of us can't understand. Open carry isn't ideal for self-defense.

Its different with guys who have actually served and are trained to do that stuff. That's a whole different deal.

Some of these guys have blurred the original purpose of open carry... protecting themselves, their family, their property.. over to achieving a "look", IMO. People do it all the time thru different means like dressing like gangsters, getting tattoos, bulk up in the gym, etc. They want to appear badder than they really are. People who are really strategic and understand how to defend themselves understand oc is not strategically beneficial.

Marine uncle that served in the South Pacific was the same way. Marine sniper calmest coolest man I ever knew. Don’t sneak up on him or scare him.

Convicted of what? I'm talking about states that have enacted open carry laws.

Some of yall are playing right into the hands of the anti-guns folks. The things you all are saying are the same things they think about people that are CC.
It's not the gun you see that will kill you-it's the one you don't see.

Well in lot of places and this is getting to be one of them....
if there is any kind of trouble .....
.and you don't have to be involved in the trouble....
if a cop thinks you have a weapon you are going to be face down on the ground in handcuffs with a knee in your back and the presumption of your involvement.......
and you have to prove your innocence......
because you will be presumed guilty because you had a gun....
rights is an argument that your lawyer will have to make for you.....
to a jury of people too stupid to get out of jury duty.

It's one of the duties of any citizen to show up for jury duty. I've been on several and would never try to shirk that duty in any way shape or form, and I sure don't want anyone on my jury that tried to get out of it either.

When I think back on the sacrifices I made for this country while a young man, and those made by so many others, then read stuff like this I often wonder why I even bothered.
