Can a guy take (pin oak dont know if that is right) and cut them to say 14 feet and use them for post's for a shed? Just looking at using some natural resources instead of buying 40.00 posts. They may rot off I dont know that is why I am asking.

I know I took some big hedge trees and cut them and had a local saw mill make them into 6+6 and 11 feet long and they will last. They sell good at the sale barn for posts to, got 80.00 bucks a piece for them. I just dont have any hedge that straight 14-16 feet

We have a bunch of thorny locust trees to but would rather not try and use them they are hard to work around and with.I have been just spraying them and killing them.

I have seen Post Oak used. Oak will rot off in the ground. Might get away with it if you cut them when the sap is down and burn the ends you put in the ground.
