If you live out in the country, chances are at some point in time your mailbox has been run over, beat up, shot at or even stolen. Happened to us again last week and one of our friends just showed up with "a little something he put together". The box is made of steel, the pieces are cut with a laser/welded together and weighs around 75 lbs. It's welded on to oil field pipe that is cemented inside a semi rim with sucker rod threaded through the holes in the rim and driven into the ground (probably another 150 lbs). Virtually indestructible! And one of the nicest surprise gifts we have ever received.

I would love to watch when someone tries to wack that thing as the drive by

Me too! Tempted to put out game cameras for our entertainment but you know they'd disappear within a week.
It Ain't right but if someone hit that with a bat and got hurt you'd be sued so fast!

True. But precisely why we have a ridiculously huge umbrella on our insurance policy. Can't fix stupid but at least we can be prepared.

I was thinking the same thing and in today’s world you would loose to the perp tearing up your stuff.

Not sure if its state or federal law, but here they won’t allow that type of mailbox because of the danger of someone hitting it. Neighbor had a really nice brick/stone mailbox that she had to replace with a cheap plastic one. They may be okay if they’re far enough off the road, I’m not sure.

Hubby just mentioned the Township has an easement on that little slice of land (for ditch maintenance, etc). I suppose it's possible they could force us to take it down - or also be liable in a potential lawsuit. Guess we'll wait and see . . . . Still love our mega-mailbox-from-he** :cboy:

Neighbor put one simular up, ad for it showed a dozer sitting on it..boy up the road went to sleep one night and ran his little car under it.. Caved the roof on the car in... Ran across the road hit the ditch and flipped it in another neighbors yard...

You are definitely going to be trouble if someone gets hurt because of your mail box. I was hoping you had it on your property not the easement. I like it, but I'd put YOUR mail box beside that one.

A few years back we had a rash of folks getting enjoyment out of smashing mail boxes. People started making mail box post out of old pull type plow beams, and pipes, and anything else creative minds come up with. The county commissioners got an ordinance passed to outlaw them, of a certain size dia. etc.

At one point some of the trouble makers got caught and told the sheriff where they smashed the boxes. The sheriff came by each persons place and asked for some paper work to be filled out. Basically wanted to know the extent and amount of damages. I got a bid from a guy to dig a hole, buy the support, buy and mount a new mail box, labor....everything. Then I turned it in and did the work myself. If I remember it was like $160. We all got paid. Haven't had any damage since!

Here where I work we test mailboxes for the DOT (among a lot of other things). I don't know about the laws in Kansas, but here in Texas you'd might be okay if it's on a local road, but if the road is federal or state you're opening yourself up to some big liability.

I've seen some test footage where the mailboxes came in through the windshield. You wouldn't want that.

The .25 mile of road in the pic is county, which stops at the entrance to the ranch. Part of our property is on both sides of that road & our house is almost a mile from the mailbox.

My parents have a very similar one except it turns on the well casing. Had it 25 years seen car parts laying around it couple times.

Yep, mailboxes with a death wish. And, there's been lots of drunk mailboxes on FM roads that jump right out in front of cars and pickup trucks.
Waiting for a local chapter of MADM to start up. Mothers Against Drunk Mailboxes.

Other vengeance, with more plausible deniability would be to put an old sicklebar mower with the tines facing up near there.. ought to flatten some tires..
