Fella that has worked for me for over ten years just won $1000 on the lottery - the most he has ever won. He is an avid player and will spend about $15 every time we walk in a store. He was giving me a hard time because I refuse to play it. He taunted me with the winning ticket telling me it could have been me but you can't be a winner if you don't play. I guess he is right. It could have been me and a $1000 would be nice to have. Maybe I need to rethink things because I must be overlooking something.

You can play the home lottory. Just take a dollar bill and crumple it up and toss it in the trash

No telling what he spent winning that $1000. I used to play a little, but haven't bought but a couple Powerballs in the last few years.

I've tried to convince him to give me the money he spends and if he can guess the number I have in my head that's between 1:50 I'll give him a $100 bill. I'm offering better odds and even if he won once every two months I'd be money ahead but he doesn't like the odds. Heck, I've even offered to write the number down for him but he still doesn't like the odds. Or maybe its that we would be breaking the law since its against the law to gamble in Georgia.

Or buy a bunch of baby jerseys, although that might give you better odds than the lottory.

Karl Marx said religion is the opiate of the masses, he was wrong it is the lottery and those stupid scratch off tickets. That being said my wife buys in with the girls at work, they have fun so I keep my mouth shut.

I've never bought a lottery ticket. My MIL gives me ten scratch off tickets for Christams every year. I won $2 on ten tickets last year.

Shooting craps on the other hand, now that is a game skill not chance.

The "Quick Stop" convenience stores are not very quick anymore. You can pretty much bet the gal in front of me is going to want 15 DIFFERENT scratch off tickets. She's going to have to price each one too before she settles on those final few.

I have a friend that goes to KY every week to a dairy cow sale. He always stops and buys $10 every week. I travel a lot too and every time I go to a state that is nearby that sells tickets I usually buy $15 $20. We have an agreement that if we ever hit the big one that we are partners on it. Back in 2008 or 2009 he checked some tickets he had bought in Franklin, KY the week before. Turns out we hit 4 out of 5 numbers plus the powerball. It paid $10,000. I have a pic of us here somewhere collecting it. We have won $100 several times. This weekend I went to Olmstead , KY to work a sale. I stopped at the lottery store on the state line after I went and looked at the cattle. I bought 20 , $5 scratch off tickets and the first one I scratched was a $90 winner. I ended up cashing in $160 from the 20 tickets. I bought $30 in powerball and mega millions tickets and paid for two meals on my trip with the winnings. Sad to say I just checked both sets of tickets I purchased and won nothing but I had a great time on the trip and ate all my food for free. I have also won two big jackpots at the casino about 8-10 years ago one year apart. One was $22,500 and one was $25,000.

That's great!!!
If you don't mind me asking, over time if you subtract how much you spent total from the total of your winnings what profit did you make?

I dont know for sure how much my buddy has spent. I would have to say I would be ahead on what I have spent at least $2000 on the lottery and several thousand at the casino. Dont get me wrong, over the long term its a loser for everyone to keep playing over and over but we have been lucky. If you dont disipline youself you could easily lose the farm at casinos. I do know that on the jackpots at the casino on one I had put $600 in a machine when it hit. The other hit I put $100 in a machine and the second time I spun it it lined up the big winner. Very unusual but it happened just that way.

That lady is riding on your shoulder :!: If she has a sister I would sure like to meet her.
I have read there is actually a money making system for video poker. You have to play the right machine -they don't all pay off the same. You have to bet the maximum each time. You get ahead of the game when you hit royal flushes.
The kicker is that royal flushes are so rare according to the probabilities you have to have start up capital of $100,000. :(
Seems to me it would take a well heeled "sport" to play the system.

I tried to buy a quick pick from one of my customers 25 years ago. He took my dollar and tore it up and threw it in the trash, then looked at me and said "i just saved you the trouble" I have not bought one since!

yer better off saving them till you have a hundred and going to the massage parlour. At least you will have a "Happy Ending"

I believe BINGO is where all the money is at. Just take a look at the nice cars in the parking lot during the day. And the parking lot is full. They have to be winning or else they would be working.

I use to buy a scratch and sniff thing once in a while and played some small stuff in Vegas while on business trips. I'm even overall in Vegas. The only time I won any thing of substance, I "forgot" to remove my winning on a roulette table the spin before.

I've changed my stance on playing the games and don't even have an itch for it. Seems like most everyone that wins, the universe finds a way to take it all back.

Life is enough of a gamble. I think I'll just stick to hard work, I even kinda like it now.

I have two friends who 25-30 years ago were somewhat finacially equal. One guy worked hard, invested his money, and didn't spend money on unnessicary things. He always said the lottery is a tax on people too stupid to do math. The other one worked hard and nickeled and dimed away his money. Then friend #2 won the lottery for 13.75 mil. Fast forward 25 years. Friend #1 has a net worth in the 10-15 million range (he worked hard and invested wisely). Friend #2 is basically dead broke and barely getting by. He went through that 13 mil the same way he would go throught his paycheck before he won the money.
