Normally they are thick as thieves about now. I have not seen a one of them.
What do you think is up with that?
Too much wet? Not enough heat?
Anybody else seeing this?
I miss seeing them.

We've had them kind of off and on but tonight they're thick as ticks. Temp is still in the 80s and humidity to match and not a puff of breeze

Why are you not outside with a mason jar?

Angie,

It's funny you bring this up. This evening about dark I was riding the 4 wheeler around the edge of the pasture and I saw firefly (lighting bug) and it got me to thinking how few lighting bugs I see these days. Tonight I only noticed about a dozen or so.

When we were kids, there were thousands in the yard everynight. I guess all those lighting bugs that I kept in a jar until they died and the ones that we smashed and rubbed the glow on our shirts, must have contributed to their decline. :( :( :( :(

When I was in basic training. 4 of us were on guard duty one night talking (we were supposed to be in 4 different spots). One of the guys says "you see that!".. Me. "what..? See what?" "Over there.. the lights.".. Apparently this guy grew up in the city. He thought light bugs were only from cartoons and had never actually seen them before.

I'm gonna have to try to stay awake one of these nights, check it out.

We were just talking about these little wonders, had them thick last year but very few around this year. I think the mosquitoes have replaced them!

We have them. Maybe a little less than when I was a kid, but then you always remember childhood differently. I was thinking about the house I grew up in. When I was a kid, I thought it was big. Then I saw it several years ago and it was appallingly small. Childhood does that to ya.

Angel, they popped out here last night! The hay field was this full of them. I shut off all the lights and the show was spectacular! :D

We've had lots of them this year. I think "lighting" is the key. Back in the old days there were not nearly as many security lights, etc. and you could see a lightening bug from way off..

Nothing yet ~ but you are right about the others. Here we get June bugs in May, and May flies in June.

We noticed them last night for the first time this year. My little girl had a blast chasing them around the yard. Oh the joys of childhood!

I noticed around here that they are not as many as their was last year. I have only seen a few this year. I noticed to that their isnt as many grasshoppers this year. Last year in the hayfield they was jumping left and right every where this year I think I seen maybe two? They wasnt hardly any in the hayfield last week.

They are here ~ showed up last night. Just a few of them, but they made it.
Is good to see them.
