I'm having my qauterhorse mare bred for the first time by artificial insemination. My qeustion is are you supposed to wear a glove "sleeve?" when AI'ing. Our technician, my neighbor girl, doesn't use one. She's been breeding horses since she graduated from colllege (8yrs.), but this strikes me as weird. She bred her for the first time today, filled syringe ect. and I expected her to glove up, but she instead put on a purple wrist length glove. Is there any danger to the mare by doing this? She did use a glove/sleeve when she rectally palpated her. Maybe this is how everyone does it, but I'm new to it.

I'm fairly new to it too, but I've been doing some for my sister. I always use a long glove when palpating and AI'ing. I put a real tight fitting nirtrile glove over the sleeve for better sensotivity since I have small hands and the sleeves are huge :( I'm more familiar with cattle ai, but no matter what animal I'm sticking my arm in I use a sleeve. Did she scrub up first?
Can you still post pics here too?
