New Tractor ?

I see people do it all the time-----------Have more dollars worth of equipment, than they have dollars worth of cattle.
I'm a Ford tractor man, but not sure I would advise anyone to buy a 6000  The 6000 is the Edsel of the tractor world, not to mention an orphan now, with a reputation of being very troublesome as the first generation of the SOS transmission.

If looking at older Fords, I'd look for a Ford 5000, preferably a gear drive model  5000 is as bulletproof as any color tractor in their class :2cents:
:D :D

Also run from any and all "grey market" tractors.

theres only 1 thing wrong with the old 6000s.and that is that all of the ford/NH dealers wont touch them.been there done that.still have a 6000 and wont let it go for nothing.

I had a grey market 5000. Crankshaft broke the one time it started right up without half an hour of fiddling with it..
Was it a '62-'64 Ford Majoe with the white hood?

The best ones were from '68-'75 with the 256 cu in diesel. The previous '65-67 had a 233 like the 5600.The 6600 did have the 256 as did the 7000 and the 76/77 00 with turbos.I agree they are a tough, comfortable tractor.NH could sell quite a few of them if they would start making them again.
Another good model was the 4600(have one w/5200 hours)and the 4610.My 5000 has over 6000, I'm guessing, and runs like new.I even pull my 5X6 round baler with it if the 6640 us down.
