New (to us) tractor

Picked up this old tractor, Massey 255 with 8 speed tranny.. Loader was on another tractor, and was pretty much just 'mocked up' in order to fit it all on the trailer. 3200 hrs I think, rear tires are in great shape, engine runs like a top.
Dang that thing is built heavy.. they must have learned from the mistake of making the 165 too light. I had NO weight on the truck, had to stop and put a few big rocks in the bucket and on the deck to make some of the steep hills on the backroads going home (15% grades on washboard/gravel/sand)...

Not the prettiest thing, but we've been looking for a decent loader tractor for nearly a decade.. I think this one will do and we got it cheap enough we can't lose money on it ($5500).. they typically go for about 3K more at auctions with a loader, and often in worse condition.

The one part I need to get off the loader donor tractor is the front pump shaft.. I hear it's threaded into the harmonic balancer adapter with left hand thread.. can anyone confirm that?

I have used them but can't remember which way they came off. It has to turn a certain way to keep it from loosening as the motor turns. It will come off in the same direction the motor turns.

Alright... Now to find something to turn it with!.. I don't have an old pump I can hack the shaft off which is what was suggested..

Those are nice tractors and have the Perkins 236 ci engine. I have driven one a lot in my younger days along with a 175 Massey. They are rated 52 hp but with a pump re-calibration can get 60 hp with no heating or other problems. The early ones had a smaller engine as a neighbor had one with the 203ci engine and one with a 236ci. The 236ci is better. No clue on the pump, but I would say KT is right.

The injector pump needs to come off to get re-sealed, I'll probably bump up the fueling on it a little while I'm in there... With the weight of those filled rear tires (80 gallon in each?) it can use the extra ponies just to move itself.
We're also going to steam clean it, the paint on the engine and tranny is good, so we'll repaint and decal the hood and fenders and it'll be like new

Nice I like it. Just make sure to go through the brakes with a fine tooth comb while you are tinkering.

Brakes seem to work good.. better than our 165 that has new brakes and yet they always bind and squeal
