I've been window shopping for a tractor. Anyone have any pros or cons on the TN75 series of New Holland?

Does it have the easy forward and reverse lever? Shuttle speed? That one option will save you so much clutching and grabbing for the gearshift(s).

Some NH are crap; some are great machines. Seems like if I remember right after the TS series, I wasn't as impressed with their durability. I can't remember if the TN series comes before or after the TS series...I know they're prob. different horsepower groups or something... ANYWAY... get the shuttle speed.

Thanks for the reply Scout. No, I wouldn't want one without the shuttle. As I understand, Fiat bought the New Holland line. At least that series has a Fiat engine and I don't know that much about them. That's my biggest concern on considering the tractor.

seems like the problems i remember from the newer series were mostly electronic. I remember some problems with the 16x16 transmissions; you had to reset the clutches every so often and stuff...it wasn't a big deal or anything.

The TN's have had some PTO problems. Not built as heavy as the older Forrd/NH's. The TS and TL have been good tractors. The TN's don't hold their value as well as older tractors do that should say something.

Thanks Tom. I've noticed that in some of the classifieds also. I'm weighing the TN against the 62 pto hp Kubota. Kubota about 1100# lighter. Both have good & bad points but these are what I kinda narrowed down to price wise.

I previously worked for a dealer that sold both NH and Kubota. The Kubotas are light for sure, parts at times were problems to get and high(they all are). I got a 4630 Ford/NH which is the old design, they don't make them as good as the older tractors in my opinion.

Seen several pto shafts break in TN's and transmission problems. If you get a Kubota I would buy a little bigger than you really think you need. The M6800 was pretty good as was the M8200, if they still make these. Been out of the ag dealer for a few years now.

Thanks for the reply Stepper. I appreciate the input.

Tom, dealer said the 6800 Kubota is a discontinued model. That's what I was looking for. The 7040 replaced it. New style, basically same tractor.

Thanks,

I also worked for NH for a few seasons and had a fair bit of experience on the TN and TV series. The biggest problem with the TN was as stated the transmission and pto. It seems alot of dealers set up the shift points (forward to reverse) really hard. To a technician on the floor it might not seem to harsh but to a loader tractor with a load on the bucket it really stressed the internals.

If I was in the market for that size of tractor and a good one presented itself I would not hesitate to purchase one.

Not to be a broken record, but I really like my Farmtrac 675.

- Similar in horsepower to either the TN75 or Kubota 6800.
- Farmtrac is heavier in weight than both the others.
- The Farmtrac model is powered by a UK built Perkins engine.
- 12F/12R Syncroshuttle Transmission standard.
- The FT675 3-point lift capacity is greater than the Kubota.
- Farmtrac features the "old" New Holland styling.
- Yet price wise, the Farmtrac is much cheaper.

It was an easy choice for me.

One thing about Farmtrac and some others, is less electronics, which relates to easeier and cheaper repairs. You might give up some frills but I feel they are more dependable with just the basics.

See, now thats how I feel Tom...

My Farmtrac will DO the same work about any more higher priced, more full featured tractor its size will do. I take great comfort in the tried and proven Perkins diesel engine as well as the Syncromesh transmission made by the same folks who supply some John Deere transmissions.

For my size operation, it just didn't make sense to me to pump additional money into the tractor purchase. I'm completely pleased with my Farmtrac and have never regretted my purchase (back in January 2003). It does all the work I need a tractor to do.

My model Farmtrac (and all the "5-series/6-series" models which "look" like a Ford) are made in India by a company called Escort. Escort's "claim to fame" dates back to 1969 when Escort signed a production agreement with Ford to manufacture the old original Ford 3000. Later upgrades to that model were known as the Ford 3600, 3610, 3620. All were produced by Escort in India.

When New Holland was bought a few years back, Escort starting producing their own line of tractors based on the earlier Ford models. Long then picked up the Escort line in the US as Farmtrac. Escort later bought the controling interest in Long and rebranded the US company as Farmtrac.

Some smaller Farmtracs and made in South Korea (the "compact" line). Farmtrac recently introduced a new "700 Series" line of larger tractors and I'm not sure where those are produced.

I own a TN75D with cab for 4-5 years now. The only problem I had with it is that the air conditioner would stop working once per season. I finally found an independent AC person who worked on it and it now is too cold. No problem found, just tightened a number of couplings that apparently had slow leaks.

Otherwise the tractor runs fine and has been very reliable. Made in Italy.
