new calve

Went out yesterday morning -25 degrees celcius minus 10 F. head this high pitched bawl that Id never heard before , went to check--little mouse of a calf , from a hiefer I never expected to calve for a month yet ,all licked off and settled in between two old girls Going to lose the edge of her ears but otherwise o.k. most off my original herd came from an old boy who believed in only keeping the tough ones for cows sure has paid off sometimes

Congrats - my luck that little sucker would be a popsicle!
We have a real damp cold out here. Real hard for babies to survive if it gets windy & cold. My barn is usually just as cold as outside, but no wind and I can put a heat lamp on them is needed (just til they are dried).

Glad that the new one made it...we won't start calving until next month.
