New bull

I see your point, problem is im already committed now so Ill stay with him for a few calves and see what I get then cut my losses if I don't get what Im looking for.

I do have a black angus bull that is more along the lines of what your saying and he is giving me some nice calves. I just wanted a Hereford bull so I could get a shorter legged calf with a longer body for more pounds in less time.

It may be a lesson learned by the school of hard nocks! Seems I have a lot of those type of lessons learned!

When I got home last night I took a long look at my Hereford bull and compared is picture to some others on the internet. It may be my inexperience but I don't see any major differences in him and the others of his age that other people like.

So I'm going to stick with him and see if he give me the kind of calves I am looking for.

I don't care if they don't look good as long as they have lots of tasty beef for my customers to put on the grill.

BLP I hate to be the one to break it to you but since you came here and asked for opinions and then decided you really didn't need to know all that stuff anyway. Here is the truth.

This is not a bad bull this is a really bad bull. You say you wanted a herf bull to knock some leg off your calves and you bought one with more leg than most girafes.

The real bad guy here is the one who didn't cut him a long time ago and instead sold him to you for a bull.

Truth... he should NEVER be allowed to breed a cow. Yours or anyone elses. BTW if you looked at him and thought he looked a lot like some bulls we really like here then you need to realign your selection criteria.

NOw you go ahead and do what you were gonna do anyway and the best of luck to you!

him being heterozygous depends on what he's breed to

There is zero chance of him throwing a polled calf out of horned cows. You will be relying solely on the cows he is bred to if your going to have polled calves.

Yes I did ask and I wouldn't want anyone to not give me there real opinion. And I said I don't have nearly as much experience as others. I just don't think he is as bad as some have indicated. If we all did the same things as everybody else this would be a very boring would.

So Im going to bread him to a few of my cows and see what I get. If I get some good butcher calves then I will continue. If I don't ill come back and be the first to say yall told me so.

I don't mind eating crow, I just will use a lot of steak sauce! LOL!

BLP, hope you listen to the sincere constructive criticism and not make this your herd sire (or anyone elses). If you've committed then it doesnt mean you can't butcher him or take him to the sale barn. Where are you located? Perhaps we can point you in the right direction to some real good hereford stock.

Im in north west Arkansas, near Fayetteville. If he doesent produce the calves that I am looking for I will butcher him. I wont take him to the sale barn. But I am going to put him with a few of my cows and see what he give me before I do that.

And who do yall think I should look to for another Hereford bull if this one doesn't work out? I would like to go see what they have for future reference.
