Friday I bought 70 rolls of hay from a man about 3 miles down the road. I asked him could I pick it up monday or tuesday of next week. He said no problem. Today a friend stopped by and said someone was moving my hay. I went down there and a man said he had bought 40 rolls of the hay for 10 more per roll than me.
I cant find the owner of the farm and I am very angry.

The seller should at least split the extra $10 with you. I know it doesn't cure your hay problem but it would show his heart is above his pocketbook. Somewhat.

I need the hay not the money.

I understand that. And I don't blame you for being angry.

But anger won't fix the problem unless the guy brings the hay back.

If that is what you want..............GO FOR IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you already pay for the hay? If so, I'd think there's something illegal here...I just can't think what it's called. I don't blame you for being mad. Right now hay is a precious commodity. If there's some way to make him get the hay back, do it. The man's sold the same hay twice. Billy Sol Estes can tell what selling something twice got him!

Don't blame you for getting mad. That sounds scary if people are bidding on hay in the field. I hope things don't get that bad here, but not much hay has been made so far this year. :(

that's just a downright dirty move there...I dont respect people like that at all...I had a parcel of my land bailed and delivered back here by a friend...gave him half of the bales for bailing it and delivering it back here...put the rest in the barn...put a sign on the barn that says "Hay for Sale inside" so they go in there...then I got a tin can in there...they put the money in the tin can and take however many bales they paid for...that's how much I trust the people in my town...I wish everybody was that trustworthy

is it double dealing, or gazzumping, it is a highly illegal thing to do as it is theft, cause if you paid him for it it is your property not his, if you have a reciept go to the Police and they will deal with it. the man who took it even though he paid for it too, has to give it back to you. and he has to claim off of the man who you both bought it from.

I had not paid for the hay yet. Just a handshake and I was going to pay when I picked it up.

The farmer that bought it agreed to sell me half the hay if I paid him what he paid.

Still havent seen the owner of the property that sold me the hay .

It looks like you have to get everything in writting and signed.

Probably not much you can do about it now. But if you really need the hay you should take the other buyers offer. But I would sure let the neighbor know what a scum he is. I wonder if the other buyer knew that you had made a deal for the hay? If he did he is no more a man than your neighbor. Every time they see you will probably cringe a little knowing what you think of them.

I think the other guy knew he had already made a deal...in the first post he said that other guy told him that he'd bought 40 bales for 10 dollars more a bale than denoginnizer had

If someone treats me square I make sure everyone knows, by the same token, if the stick me I make sure everyone knows. Nothing real obvious, just dropped in casual conversation. It's amazing how quickly the word gets around on who is a straight shooter and who is a sharper.

I had something similiar happen to me back last September. There was a guy in Western Oklahoma had an add in the papper for a going out of business sale. He had 30 head of 4 & 5 year old heavy bred cows for sale. I called before i came to look at them to see if he had to sale them all together or if he would sale a few of them. He saild he would sale any or all of them it did not matter. I drove sixty miles to look them over. The reason he was saling was because he had lost his lease on pasture and had run out of hay. I picked out 10 of them and told him i would be back first thing in the morning with my trailer and the money. He said that was fine and he would help me get them loaded. I showed up at 7 a.m. the next morning and he said that a guy came by right after i had left and said he wanted to buy all of his cows and was suppose to come by to pick them up that after noon. I told him what i thought of him and left pretty mad.

yea that $10 a roll will never make him rich, it may cost him business in the future.

In the cattle business, it aint about what you know, it's about who you know...and when people know you're a snake...like that fellar was that sold the hay after he made a deal with Deno., they dont trust you...if they dont trust you...they wont buy from you...so that probably was a bad mistake for that fellar

Thats not entirely true. Depends on what state you live in. Rules vary.

A handshake apparently wont get you as far as it used to
