My Steers?

Sort of OT, I was just thinking its interesting most people on this board seem to tie their cattle up for quite some time with their heads high, to train them to keep their heads up. I have never tied my animal's heads up for more than an hour or two, and I have never really had too much of a problem with holding their heads up in the ring. But as Brahma_show_girl said, they generally look around at everything and hold their own heads up - also because I intentionally don't make them bombproof before the show.

Sorry to divert from the subject, I was just thinking.

As for the marshmellows, I dont know . . . that would be pretty funny to see though.

We've used marshmellows with pigs many times to get higher head sets. I would think it would be distracting and a bit dangerous with steers, as you need both hands to work and control them. Might practice it at home only. They are FAT FREE! Pure sugar!
We also tie the steers daily with their heads at show level. Start with about 30 mins. and gradually work them up to 2-3 hours. Good luck.

yea but you dont use the marshmallows in the ring you use them at home to get them to settle down some. i usually just make them eta out of a higher bowl

I wasnt going to use them in the ring I just thought of it as an idea.

You could give the marshmellows after your done showing him as a reward at the show. I saw somebody give their steer a half eaten candy apple after they were done showing one time.You will let us know how you did after the fair?

marshmellows are made by mixing sugar and tallow very fast and getting it full of air bubbles.It makes a foam, So it is like sponge when under a microscope. I witnessed the making of marshmellows in a food sci. class it is amazing the number of foods that have animal by products in it
