We had our last calf born this past Friday. We tightened up our calving season by almost two months from last year, and we are very happy with the way everything is looking. We have gotten a lot of rain this spring, and the grass is really coming on strong. We plan to turn out the bulls on June 1st, but we plan to AI about 1/3 of the herd on a natural heat this year. We were originally planning to sync them, but we are hoping for better conception rates by breeding them on the natural heat.

This is a group shot of the cow herd. They are currently running on the top land which is primarily Plains Bluestem with quite a bit of bur clover mixed in.

And here are some of the calves.
820 Heifer- This heifer just hit 6 months old and is out of a 16 year old cow, OK Sadie. Sadie is the best cow in our herd and the majority of our herd can be traced back to her. The sire of the 820 heifer is BB Uncle Tony. We have two full siblings to this heifer in our herd currently, and they are awesome females.

926 Heifer- This heifer was 92 lbs at birth and sired by OK Boss II. She was born on April 10 and is out of a really nice older cow. This is only the third heifer that she has had out of the last 9 calves.

912 Heifer- This is one of my favorite calves. She is 7 weeks old here and was 68 lbs at birth. She is sired by OK Boss II and is a granddaughter of BB Uncle Tony. I have high hopes for her.

And this bull calf is really starting to catch my eye. He was born on March 12th at 92 lbs. He is either 16 days late by AI or 5 days early by live cover. Historically his dam has not had a calf over 82 lbs, so we will be DNA testing the calf to be sure. He is 9 weeks old here.

This last photo shows one of my favorite cows with her day old bull calf. The bull calf is sired by OK Boss II and was 88 lbs at birth. The cow is a 4 year old daughter of BB Uncle Tony.

Wow! Sadie's heifer has everything that you need. How big does her daughters get when they are mature?

We currently have three of Sadie's daughters in the herd. One is a full sister to BB Uncle Tony, and she is between a frame 4 and 4 1/2. The other two are sired by Tony and are a frame score 3 and 4. The smaller of the two weighed 1,050 lbs when she weaned her calf last year and the slightly taller one weighs right around 1,150 pounds.
