I notice yesterday evening when checking the water trough mosquitoe larve in the water. Is there something i can do to prevent this. besides draining the tank?
Its been fairly dry at home not much standing water around, maybe some fish? Anybody else ever notice this??

We put Goldfish in our troughs....they also help keep the alge down...we haven't noticed mosquitoes in them either.

The feed stores around here carry a product that can be put in tanks to kill the larvae. We just put goldfish in them, and the fish ate the larvae.

Will the larve have any effect on the cows?

Probably not, but with West Nile floating around out there why take the chance? It used to be that mosquitos were simply a nuisance, but these days they can be deadly.

Point well taken. Also EEE is a threat up here.

Don't think mosquito eggs or larvae can survive the juices in a cows stomach so not a problem. Minnows and goldfish work well as do the mosquito dunks. Anything holding a little bit of water can be a breeding ground for mosquitoes...
