do you get 3 days of cold for each one? does the sun reflect off the humidity that is frozen in the air? i sure hate'em, just means more cold!

I saw moon dogs last month on the way home one night. I love full moons during the winter in MN makes for easy killing of coyotes.

Here if you see a sundog it mean 48 hour until some falling weather.
I have never seen one that large here they usually are small and not as colorful.

Ok, I will try to answer everyone, sort of.....

Sundogs are the reflection of the sunlight off of ice crystals that are in the air. We rarely see them like the ones in the last few pictures. Usually, they are seen during the day, not at sunrise. These ones really show the rainbow effect.

I don't really know if the old wives tale actually holds true or not. I just know that it IS cold when we see them.

i never herd of that .. but thats pretty cool. great pics by the way, learn something new every day.. i should be good to go today lol Rose
