would it be a good idea to feed just corn to 4-5 wgt steers. Do they need more protein than just corn can give them?

Corn runs around 10% crude protein, 4-5 wt calves require more protein then that, probably around 13% minimum (just a guess)

Calves this size should be on hay or pasture, so don't overlook the protien from those sources. You need to look at the total ration for protien not just the corn! Buying protien is expensive so only add it when it is needed.
