I'm either deleting the DEF system on my 22 RAM or I'm going to a 3/4 Hemi.
DEF system warranty is 50K of course I am at 56K.
I am not going to play with it his crap.
Start shopping DEF delete and new truck Monday.
One of the reasons I bought an F-250 with the 6.2l gas engine. The other was the $9000 upcharge for the diesel. And that was in 2018. I can buy a lot of gas for $9000 and I can still tow around 12,000 lbs. I looked at new ones recently and prices are INSANE. I’ll stick with what I have and hope it lasts a long time. No issues so far at 112,000 mi and been very happy with it.
 
The government creates rules for you that don't apply to them, their vehicles come straight from the factory with no DEF controls, etc. Seems wrong to prosecute someone for running their vehicle with the same setup as the governments.

That said, I avoided the issue and have a 3/4 Ram with the 6.4 Hemi.
Had a 2014 3/4 ram with 4x4 and the hemi. Loved driving the truck empty. We pull a 35’ travel trailer and a 23’ gooseneck cattle trailer. Truck would not handle either in the hills. We have a 2018 with the Cummins and it’s a different world. Running DEF for me is not an issue and the cost for a few gallon is negligible. I will however delete before replacing the system. Power and mileage is not close between the two
 
Keep getting the get service warning.
That might be the crankcase filter service light. Causes excessive crankcase pressure when not serviced. It's the main cause of oil leaks on the new diesels, especially the Powerstroke oil pans.
 
Still have it 2002 6 speed 7.3 PS and up to 42K miles. Sat outside very few days of its life, still OEM stock. Recent pictures taken about 6 months ago.

Highly suggest not adding any additional HP when it is reprogrammed, nor one of the multi-position switches.

Do you have the 68RFE or Aisin transmission?
 
On a lot of the newer diesel trucks the high-pressure fuel pump can grenade and destroy the whole fuel system as has been mentioned here before at upwards of 15k to fix. If your truck has one of the pumps prone to failure, I would want the filter kit added to help prevent this.

Over the recent years, the CP4 failure rate has been so high that it has led to several class action lawsuits from vehicle owners seeking compensation in the United States. Although all injector pumps eventually need replacing, the main complaint about the CP4 is that it fails abruptly and contaminates the fuel system.

Not sure about the Rams, but Fords have had a lot of problems with this and if I had one, I would want the filter kit or the newer better pump added.

I think RAM went back to the CP3 in 2021. Might be why they are lacking in hp compared to the other. I'd be willing to bet 75% of CP4 failures are due to Def or gas in the fuel at some point.
 
Correct most CP4 failures are due to dirty fuel, be it DEF, water, or other contaminates. The question is why do OEMs not put adequate fuel filters on them? Clean lubricated fuel is key to any diesels longevity but 10x more important with a CP4 pump.

Exactly. I remember when others posted about their experience years back. Somewhere along the lines of - Fuel system ruined because you used fuel from a station that other trucks use with no problem. That dirty fuel did the damage. Your fault alone. Nothing wrong with our design or components. We have adequate filtration for "good fuel". Amazing that they can get by with that argument.

I remember a situation with the early ford navistar engines. Ford buying engines from navistar and installing them in their trucks. Regular antifreeze. Cavitation damage on the cylinder liner sleeves. Turns out that a navistar truck with that engine had a separate coolant treatment system to deal with the issue. Ford had neglected to make any provisions. Then selling what they called FW15, then FW16, then VC8 - magic juice for cavitation control. I think that is mostly correct. Oops!

Because they are too worried about bluetooth and mood lighting and you can't make money on things that don't break.

You have to watch the fuel pump deal. If it's the years that have them just pay accordingly to do the fix.

My uncle has a 15 Chevy with the CP4. He has the kit for it and the truck has over 200K miles. Chevy got rid of that pump in 17.
