I'm either deleting the DEF system on my 22 RAM or I’m going to a 3/4 Hemi.
DEF system warranty is 50K of course I am at 56K.
I am not going to play with it his crap.

We deleted our 2018 chevy last summer and have never looked back. It was nice not having to buy that DEF when I went to Illinois last month. The cost to delete or replace the exhaust filter system was about the same.

On the Chevy i delivered the trailers with, after the delete i could get 21 pulling and up to 29 empty. Well worth the expense. More power also.

I'm not against deleting a truck but there are some draw backs to it. Every dealer I called about trading in a diesel truck has ask if it's deleted. If it is deleted they won't take it in trade or work on it. Our local Dodge dealer just got a $500k fine (Along with 7 other independent shops) for deleted trucks and the dealership ended up changing hands. Also if you live in a county that still does annual emissions testing you can't get a registration sticker. At least not on the up and up.

We put 85k miles on the F350 we just traded and never had an emissions issue. Most guys I know are running truck until well over 100k before they have an issue and then doing a delete. DEF was a pain but now nearly every truck station has it at the pump so it's no big deal. That being said the first sign of trouble and I'd delete one.

Are you having any issues with it now or just being proactive?

I'm all in favor of the truck going on a diet...

Just the know the EPA has cracked down and issued large fines to shops that do it and companies that sell some of the necessary parts to do it. Some of those suppliers have given the EPA their client lists. So be careful who you buy from and don't tell too many people.

Also as stated most dealers won't ever trade them in and many dealers and shops won't even work on them if they've been deleted.

You can either "fix them" for today (with no assurance for tomorrow) at the dealer (maybe) or "fix them" permanently at secret places. But either "fix" is very expensive. Either way you pay twice or more - one time at purchase and another at fixing. And that's why old equipment with reasonable hours has become so expensive.

I did not know there were problems with the newer diesel trucks. I bought a new F150 with V8 last year, but kept my 2003 Dodge Cummins 4x4 for pulling the livestock trailer and hay. The Dodge didn’t even come with a catalytic converter, when new. Crazy how things change.

Screwed up when I sold my 02 Powerstroke!

Def Delete is fairly easy, my one has done it on 2 of our trucks, way cheaper than a new truck. I've got a /4 ton hemi as well. nice truck, I couldn't get a deisel at that time due toCovid and trucks were high but a fleet buyer got this one for me. It's a nice truck, not sure that it will last as long as a diesel. They are pretty damn fast. will get a little wild if you get after it on a wet road

I have a 99 F350 Powerstroke 4WD, CC, duals, 6 speed manual with 127k miles. Components do fail due to age, but engine will outlast me for sure. Sticker was $38k, paid $33k I think. They don't make them like that anymore, and they sure are expensive.

My son has a 2018 Ram Cummins that has never given any problem. But many have trouble with the fuel injection system and with the DEF system on these modern trucks. $$$$$ And they have that limp mode. I don't need no limping.

Does @jltrent still have his Powerstroke with just a few thousand miles? I think that guy knows how to maintain equipment. Everything he posts looks pristine.

The government creates rules for you that don't apply to them, their vehicles come straight from the factory with no DEF controls, etc. Seems wrong to prosecute someone for running their vehicle with the same setup as the governments.

That said, I avoided the issue and have a 3/4 Ram with the 6.4 Hemi.

I've never owned a diesel and I've never been inclined to mess with the exhaust systems on my trucks.

But I had a commercial building that I had rented to a mechanic, a guy that bought and sold all kinds of equipment he'd pick up cheap because it was not running properly, repair it, and sell for some very good money. Most of the equipment he bought was a thousand miles away of so, and he put a lot of miles on his rig. I know he was messing with his diesel trucks to get better mileage. He had a propane tank which injected the gas to extend miles per gallon, and he also has a water injection unit. He claimed to be able to extend his tank of fuel almost double. He had an older Dodge with the Cummins, and a newer Ford, and he was claiming over 30 MPG on the highway pulling a 38 foot enclosed trailer.

Still have it 2002 6 speed 7.3 PS and 42K miles. Sat outside very few days of its life, still OEM stock. Pictures taken about 6 months ago.

Nice truck. I had that same upholstery in a ‘98 F-150 that I sold at 238,000 mi. The upholstery had no rips, no threadbare spots, still in great shape. I was amazed. Doubt if the new one are that good.
