I have a Marchigiana X Angus cross calf. Brought him home from work. They bred 10 to a Markey bull. Those bred cows calved back in the fall calving group (Aug-Sept) Of the 10 that were bred, if I remember correctly 1 or 2 had twins. They were all an interesting shade of reddish/brown at birth. A couple looked like mine, sort of a brindle. The calves all had heavier birthweights than the straight Angus. 1 had difficulty (LARGE calf), born somewhat of a dummy-calf----the one they sent home with me as a week old. All the Markey calves could be spotted "a mile away" amongst the straight black Angus calves not just by color but by size. They were considerably larger than their peers. They have larger frames, are a bit taller and more muscle than their straight Angus peers.
The calf I brought home has grown like a weed and is a bit more rambunctious than any other bottle-calf I've raised.
I'm not sure which bull or bulls they used. I do know they did an internet search for any/all breeders in the US and had the Select Sires rep acquire the semen that they wanted.
