I wish I had made a notch on something for every drought I've been thru.
 
There seems to be no middle road though.. When we flood, we flood. Want to find our place, go to the rain and turn right...lol The whole state of texas can be under sunny skies and there will be one dot of rain and it will be over us.
 
Relax....it's been raining out here for 3 days too. Suppose to stop tonight supposedly. Some folks are getting some much needed water in their farm tanks.

Terrible drought last winter. It will take years to recover. The drought is ongoing. Slow soaking rain is coming down. This is the first time we have been saturated in a long time. 7 1/2 inches of rain in July came all at once with much run off. It didn't penetrate.

If you want to see drought lakes, google Twin Buttes reservoir or Lake O C Fisher.
O C Fisher--that's where the water is supposed to be controlled from to send water down the North Conch to city of San Angelo. You can see the water marks on the concrete--the earthen dam is behind. I used to fish here in the late 90s, thru 2004 and it would take 30 minutes to cross it in a good boat.

Even the catfish had ticks beginning around 2006.
 
If you look at bhb's map it says I only need 12-15" to get back to normal... Here that's one real wet year or almost two average years and things usually start drying out here by april and we won't get more than a shower again until november so we're about out of chances and two years behind. :cry2: Having enough rain for standing water would be a life changing event for me right now. I'm pretty positive I'd be out dancing in it and I know that the stress relief would add a few years to my life.

Be careful what you wish for--I learned the hard way..sometimes a drought breaker is problematic--this once came in January 2012, after a dry dry dry 2011--another deluge just like it came in March 2012..

My big tank only likes about a foot from being full. Last time it was full was after tropical storm hermine in 2010
 
About 4 inches this weekend and today. Most of this is running off since the ground is soggy and ponds are full. It is running into the creek then another creek then into the Brazos. Wish I had a way to store it for July and August. After 2011 it is hard to complain about rain.
