I've seen many cows that were at least as aggressive as bulls, and in many cases far more... I know just the kind of cow you're talking about CB... I hauled one this spring.. she'd take a run at you from wherever she could see you

Nesikep all you have to do when she charges is remain calm and at the last second step to the side, grab her ears as she goes by, and pull down and towards you real hard. Try it some time. But make sure you have a friend videoing it to use as a "how-to" video :lol:

Man I'm glad I don't have cows like that, I guess it depends on how much human contact they have. Mine get a lot of time spent with them and are really gentle, I just bought a bull from a guy that has gentle cattle also. I respect the bull because, well he's a bull, but he has been handled quite a bit and evidently handled the right way.

I really ought to take a video of some of these indian cows I haul... they're some kind of mean.. Even when they don't have a calf they're meaner than my worst cow and a newborn... they spend all summer, and sometimes winter in the mountains, where there are lots of mountain lions, bears, and wolves.. they get that way for a reason

Nesikep. If it' successful, you can claim it was skill.
If she slings you by your teeth, clean over your truck, just call it bad luck.

I agree with SOB; situational awareness is #1, no matter how much experience, knowledge, and 'skill' you have. We read in the news about very experienced cattlemen getting injured or killed........not common, but not uncommon either; many do not make headlines.
Luck is a religion.

There's a saying when learning to ride street bikes.. "You start out with a full bucket of luck and an empty bucket of experience, the trick to staying alive is to fill the bucket of experience before your bucket of luck runs dry"

Definitely holds true for handling bulls

I've heard that phrase all my life. What does it mean to you? What does that phrase expose about the one who utters it?
I'd first guess the person was using it as an excuse for a successful outcome, after they realized that good wasn't good enough. Pilots do it all the time. We are all 'lucky' on occasion. The frequency of 'luck' may be directly proportional to a lack of awareness.

I'd first guess the person was using it as an excuse for a successful outcome, after tey realized that good wasn't good enough. Pilots do it all the time. We are all 'lucky' on occasion. The frequency of 'luck' may be directly proportional to a lack of awareness.

I would say the majority of time this is the truth. I can think of a few times when no matter how good you are, it just doesn't matter. If I'm sitting in a military caravan in Afghanistan, I want to be darn lucky.
