Homozygous for "Mouths", "Noses", and "Eyes".

March 7, 2007 - 2:37PM

In the odd animals hall of fame, this little piggy takes the cake.

Pigs are a sign of fertility in China, and in the Year of the Pig, this piglet got more than his fair share, being born with two mouths, two noses and three eyes.

Liu Shuping, a farmer specialising in raising pigs, presented the new-born piglet in Xi an, in north-west China's Shannxi province yesterday.

But it's not unique. Only last month there were reports of a pig being born in Quanzhou in East China's Fujian province with two mouths and four eyes.

Back in the 90s I worked on a 2400 sow farrowing farm for one of the then big companies. With 50,000+++ pigs born a year, I think I have seen 3 or 4 two faced pigs during those years and a couple of siamese twin pigs. I did not realize they were a tourist attraction. The workers all lined up too look at the wierd pig and after an hour of gawking I killed the thing.

For those of you that may be tempted to buy into this B.S., these kind of defects are not associated with linebreeding or genetic defects. They are just forms of siamese twins with varying degrees of separation. And like any identical twins, separated or not it is a random occurance, not genetic.

Mike, I posted this because there are uninformed people who would think you are serious. This tread a while back had a calf with a similar twinning deformity and there were some blaming inbreeding and genetic defects. That is why I posted it. I knew it was a joke. What I didn't know was that you would get riled up over my post or I would have just not posted. I don't visit this site to pick fights and sling insults.
