I use a 10 wheels kuhn with a center, rear mounted kicker. Itd work better if there were two and they were towards the front, each kicking to the outside. My single rear kicker, in thinner hay, will have considerably more hay on one side than the other.
As much as I can i leave the kicker off thr ground. I also try to leave the tedder parked. Probably my own enemy here. Lol
