John deere 5400 wont start

I have a 5400 series JD. Was driving tractor and tried to shift from reverse to forward and the gear shift lever just flopped around. Turns out i broke roll pin #16. Tore the shift lever apart and replaced the broken roll pin. Put it all back together and now when i turn the key the lights on the dash come on and then nothing else. Does the tractor think its still in gear and wont crank? Will jumping to starter override that feature? Doni need to pull the battery to reset it ? Any thoughts?

Your transmission engage interlock switch I'll bet.

If it's like mine you should have 12v coming into the switch and 12V out if your not in Hi Lo or Rev.

Sounds like the trans in gear switch/interlock

Pulling it off will not override the switch.
