ok so as some of you are aware,i am doing an AI course shortly
I have Mainly jersey with a couple of Friesian cows in my herd of foster cows
I am curious as to what to breed them tobviously i would like the resulting calf to be saleable.
In my local area, dairy farmers are AI'ing their dairy cows to Murray Greys, Herefords, Angus and Brahman and these calves tend to sell easily.
We run Angus cattle and honestly,i am not a fan of them :|
Alot of them have ratty natures, kick and are just plain stupid...
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Brahamns....
I like the Hereford and Murray Grey crosses aswell.
I have been doing some reading about the Piedmontese and i really like them but i worry they might be too much for the jersey's calving wise :?:
So after much studying , i have come to the conclusion that fat calves (under 4 months) make great money and it doesnt matter what colour they are. The shorter and fatter the better as they go straight to slaughter.
So ideally i would be after shorter bulls that produce short calves that put on weight quickly :!:
I also would prefer to breed to polled bulls only.
So am i sounding like a nutt case or do i make sense
I would love some input about the jersey/friesian calving ease ,where i might be able to look up some potential sires and any other information anyone is prepared to give :help:
Thanks in advance
