I was at a friend's store the other day and I watched as a woman ran across the street to his store with a crutch under each arm. Due to much practice she was able to squeeze them with her armpits thus freeing both hands for her sprint across the busy road. I also noticed that the crutches were not adjusted properly. They had been shortened considerably. As she entered the store, my friend gave a nod to one of his employees and this employee shadowed the woman as she did her shopping. When done, she left and ran back across the street with two sacs of goods and crutches squeezed under her armpits. It was a funny sight so I asked my friend what was her story. He told me that she is a lawsuit waiting to happen and they dread her entering the store and always escort her to be sure she doesn't fall. She makes her money off injury claims in people's businesses. She will "slip" or "fall" and get a check. Undoubtedly someone is paying her a steady check for being "handicapped" cause he said though she always has the crutches with her at times she will garb out with her full injury attire which includes a neck brace and some sort of back support along with her crutches when they come to inspect her.

Being inquisitive - OK nosey - I have begun taking notcie of her around town. Turns out she runs a store herself. Owns it. In the afternoons you can see her out front lifting and moving merchandise back into the store without her crutches or any help. Her car is plastered with those handicapped tags and stickers thus guaranteeing a premium parking spot.

Every time I see this woman I can't help but think of all the people who truly need help or need the parking spot and can't get it cause someone like Miss 50 Yard Dash is sopping up the resources. Is there an agency or something that monitors this type stuff? If so who? And why would she know to put on her full garb when they come and check on her? Do they call and tell you, "hey, we are coming by Tuesday to see if you are really handicapped". I just don't get it. I've got mixed emotions. One part of me wants to go over to her store and trip on a lawn mower sue the $hit out of her to give her a taste of her own medicine and another part of me wants to see some angency shove those crutches where the sun don't shine. It just ain't right. Any thoughts?

I guess it is posible for her to somehow become what she pretends to be .There will be a day when she's asked to give an account for all that . I wonder what her answer will be .

Have you got a way to take pics of her without her noticing? Take pics of her lifting stuff. Then turn em into the proper people whoever they may be.

Can most definitely get it on camera with no problem at all. She is very careless with her act. Her picking up the lawnmower would have been a good one. But who are they? Who would you call?

Larry, I understand what you are saying and this is the route I will probably take but I really think it is unfair that someone like this takes away from those who are truly needy. I'm not against the system, I'm just against the abuse of the system. And how can I complain about injustices in the system if I don't take advantage of the opportunity to improve the system when I can.

I know workman's comp has a fraud division, that on tips, goes out under cover and films people with "injuries" doing things they claim that they can't.
I'm pretty sure the stores she has sued would LOVE to get a picture of her lifting things she claims she can't.
The reason she knows to put on her full garb is someone is tipping her off.

Find out through the motor vehicle department who issues the Handicap stickers. Then contact them about a person fraudulantly using a sticker. They can get you, hopefully, going in the right direction. A call to your state capitol might be helpful, but it may not too. Sometimes finding the right department to talk to can be a major run a around.
Just a thought contact the head of insurance companies in your state. I'm sure that the insurance company paid her the money. They would also be interested.

Been drinking. Anyhow, I guess I should have been more specific. "I wonder what her anser will be?" Oh SH!t. Its funny if you've had a few. Thursday is my Friday.

I would take pics and then confront her with the pics..Then I would advise her that it would be in her best interest to pony up half of whatever she has gotten from these false claims...

Oh wait, that would be extortion..........Never mind..

I agree 100%, we should do all we can to stop this kind of thing . I think if I were your friend I would begin by not doing business with her and advise other businesses to do the same .

Absolutely!! But she is not thinking about that now.

Not sure how it works on your side of the pond, but here we would report someone like that to the local Social Services, they issue the Disabled Dockets, and then they would take over from there in investigating, and here they do call to say on Officer is coming, so that may be how she knows, strange I know they should just turn up but they say they inform you so as you can be around as their time is limited. Why not take a few photo's leave them with someone you know who is also annoyed, and sees her with the Officer who comes to see her in her full garb, and when that Officer is going back to his/her car present them to him/her.
I hate people who buck the system, and take it away from the people who really need it. Lets hope she gets he comeuppance soon.

I agree that she should be photographen and the pics sent to the Woker's comp folks. I know that if she were suing me, I would be following her around town taking snapshots of her.

Guy where Steve works did something similar yesterday. It's humid and the floors are sweating in the plant. He fell and busted his butt. He worked all day after that, after being given about two hours to rest, and then at the end of the day was screaming saying that no one cared about him and that he was told to walk it off. They took him to the doctor where he was told to go home take an advil and a hot shower. He's supposed to be at work at six. I have a bet he won't

Had a lady that worked for me who slipped on the ice at work. She was on light duty forever but when she came in on Mondays she would talk about going horseback riding... Ended up saying the fall had twisted her uterus, (?) and ended up having a hysterectomy. She was fired while she was in recovery. It was a strange firing, I'd never fired someone while they were in the hospital. She richly deserved it, though.

My brother works with someone always looking for a free ride, she has filed many clainms with various employers. He was able to go online and look up her history, can't remember how, turns out the lady had a arrest warrant out for her for fraud.

People like this don't have a conscience, its all just a game to them, they don't care who they take advantage of, or what the consequences for their actions are.

I had a worker fall of a picnic table at the training center. She was sitting on it backwards. I didn't think she should have been able to ask the center for help on it since she should have been sitting up there to begin with. After she "recovered", she "hurt" her back again opening an oven door at one of the group homes! I'm constanly amzed at what people will do!

I could go on and one. If you work with direct care folks you will get a lot of injuries, some legit and some not. When we started drug testing following injuries that required a doctor visit, the reports went way down!
