I was at a friend's store the other day and I watched as a woman ran across the street to his store with a crutch under each arm. Due to much practice she was able to squeeze them with her armpits thus freeing both hands for her sprint across the busy road. I also noticed that the crutches were not adjusted properly. They had been shortened considerably. As she entered the store, my friend gave a nod to one of his employees and this employee shadowed the woman as she did her shopping. When done, she left and ran back across the street with two sacs of goods and crutches squeezed under her armpits. It was a funny sight so I asked my friend what was her story. He told me that she is a lawsuit waiting to happen and they dread her entering the store and always escort her to be sure she doesn't fall. She makes her money off injury claims in people's businesses. She will "slip" or "fall" and get a check. Undoubtedly someone is paying her a steady check for being "handicapped" cause he said though she always has the crutches with her at times she will garb out with her full injury attire which includes a neck brace and some sort of back support along with her crutches when they come to inspect her.
Being inquisitive - OK nosey - I have begun taking notcie of her around town. Turns out she runs a store herself. Owns it. In the afternoons you can see her out front lifting and moving merchandise back into the store without her crutches or any help. Her car is plastered with those handicapped tags and stickers thus guaranteeing a premium parking spot.
Every time I see this woman I can't help but think of all the people who truly need help or need the parking spot and can't get it cause someone like Miss 50 Yard Dash is sopping up the resources. Is there an agency or something that monitors this type stuff? If so who? And why would she know to put on her full garb when they come and check on her? Do they call and tell you, "hey, we are coming by Tuesday to see if you are really handicapped". I just don't get it. I've got mixed emotions. One part of me wants to go over to her store and trip on a lawn mower sue the $hit out of her to give her a taste of her own medicine and another part of me wants to see some angency shove those crutches where the sun don't shine. It just ain't right. Any thoughts?
