Infected eye

Well my vet came out and gave my mare the needle and she didn't lay down. She stayed standing and he was able to look all around in her eye and found nothing. So he gave me another anibiotic and if that doesn't work I will ask him about flushing the nasolacrimal duct. Thanks will let you know. Becky

My gelding had a watering type eye, and I flushed his nasclacrimal duct yesterday evening. Hopefully this will help him. I could not see anything in his eye, so hopefully the duct was just stopped up. I used a 20cc syringe with a small flexible hose attached to the end. The duct is a small opening in the nose. We filled the syringe with a saline solution bought from the grocery store, and while I held his head, my wife injected the solution into the duct until it started flowing from the tear duct in his eye. I think she put about 10 - 12cc in him.

I checked him this morning and he was grazing. The eye looked a little better than the day before. -----------------------------------
