wow, how funny it was April 1st that I posted this! And it was my last post for almost 2 years. Well obviously we made it down and back just fine. Believe it or not I am still waiting on the good pictures. My son took a bunch but it was with a really cruddy camera. One if the Hungarian guys was a photo fiend and took 1000s - all of the group is waiting for one of the other Hungarians to sort and put together a set of cds or dvds for the rest of us of his pictures.
I almost gave myself an ulcer over that road, but now I would do it again in a second. It WAS VERY VERY scary, but as long as I focused on the road and didn't look down or out my side window it was fine. Good road - better than any of the ranch roads I drive on all the time. The locals drive it kind of fast so you don't want to meet them on any of the many blind curves but for the most part you can see other vehicles coming from their dust and just pull over and wait for them to go by. Not too many actual pull outs, but enough wide spots to make it ok.
It was actually harder making the turn onto the narrow street our hotel was on, heh! Very narrow, colonial alleyways - only one lane through most of the town and then a little wider spot around the lower plaza made two streets for a block and a half. It was really a great trip. There are lots of goats around there obviously but I got some pix of what we kind of think of as Mexican corriente cattle too. There were even some pigs running in the river bottom. We fed them some stale tamales.
Went back to Chihuahua again a couple of times since then but haven't made it back down into the big canyons yet.
