Haven't been able to find much reading on the purpose of the neck hump on bulls. I'm mainly interested in correlations to performance (if any) for Angus influenced cattle. Any insights, observations, references etc. are appreciated.

the smartest person i know says that the hump/thick neck development is correlated to scrotal development.

also a bull has to be in good condition for both . but thats a no brainer he can have a well developed scrotum and the body of steer. ive seen this too many times as im sure yall have . but a real masculine bull in top conditon will have a hump. like a stallion has a thick neck and big jowls due to the production of testosterone

Our herd bull was born in July of '03. We bought him in November of '05 and just since that time he has really developed his "hump". He looks more like a bull and less like a baby every day.
