got a 1993 honda civic for my daughter 1.5 engine

heat gauge goes to hot --motor isnt really hot-fan doesnt start up---fan will run when I jump it from the battery so fan motor is ok what do you think --

Buy a FORD  Ok, now I feel better. Replace the temp sending unit it's cheap. If it still shows hot but the radiator is cool replace the thermostat. Could be it's sticking shut allowing the water in the block to over heat by not allowing it back into the radiator. The thermostat lets the hot water out of the block, back into the radiator to be cooled.

I hope we don't have to get into blown head gaskets here.

Sounds like a bad thermostat.

Temp gauge first then thermostat, If the engine is cool. If the engine is hot look at the thermostat first.

or could be the water pump
or could be the radiator is clogged
or could be the hoses are pinched shut
but, start where the previous posts suggested
