cfpinz, if you're crossing the cattle from that red bull with the hereford I'd love to see those calves.

My favorite cross of the two is a black baldy from the herf bred to a straight gv, the steers do well and the heifers can be retained and bred back to an angus to "stabilize" things. I don't care for over 50% continental in any of the cows, or steers for that matter.
Alan, we use a 14% pelleted tranquilizer, about 5lbs or so. Better watch out though, cause when it's gone he'll go on a full-out bucking frenzy.

Thank you all for the comments. Those bulls are not perfect by any means, but they've worked well for us and the intended purpose.
The Hereford throws really nice steers, they'll weigh with continentals given the same conditions. His heifers can be hit and miss for some reason, but I bet we've got 50 or better of his daughters running around here after picking and choosing thru them. They can get a little light on milk if you're not careful.
The Gelbvieh threw really nice daughters, as well as steers - probably a bit more suited for our use. He was a bit pinched up in the heart and flank, but otherwise a pretty nice bull. He held his condition all summer when the grass got lean, more so than the Hereford. We figured he didn't have the fat cover to melt off like the herf did. I don't care to butcher any more steers that are over half gv, the ones we butchered from him that were 75%+ gv didn't have enough IM fat.
