I need a database program (with pedigree) to keep up with my longhorn cattle. I'm looking at two programs, has anyone had experience with them? Any side by side comparisons?
There's CattlePro 2000 http://www.cattlepro.com but the cheapest one with pedigree info is $700. Hard to tell much from the demo (not a working version) and it looks a little "homemade" for lack of a better description.
Then there's Herd Management 2000, Cattle edition http://www.firststepsoftware.com which is $300, and there's a full working demo. It seemed cleaner and a lot more professionally programmed.
Before purchasing, I'd sure like to hear if anyone else has hands-on experience with these two programs and can give me some feedback. Thank you!
Paul,
I do not have any experience with the programs you mentioned. About ten years ago I went through what you are looking at now and I decided I could not afford it. For pedigree's, I opted to use a geneoligy program that works great and it is free for the asking. It does not do all of the other things that the cattle programs will but I have managed to adapt. If you are interested, e-mail me. Regards,
Mack

: I need a database program (with pedigree) to keep up with my longhorn cattle.
