How not to use the cattle chute.

Last night I ran a little bull into the chute to castrate. One side of the automatic head gate did not close all of the way. The calf got through until he hip locked. I was able to latch the other side without too much stress on the calf for the short time I planned to work.

It worked out pretty good. Anyone else with much more experience than me ever do something similar?

Sometimes you just play the hand that you have.

Have done that many a time, we have a manual chute and sometimes they have taken "the leap" at the last moment and they sneak thru.... hate that when it does happen. But if it's a tagging or something easy and they are small enough we have done the same as you. Other times, let 'em go and run them thru again.
