After a week of 80s it's dropped back to the 40s and 50s, now they're calling for a hard frost tonight.
 
26 degrees this morning with heavy frost/freeze. Growing season just got pushed back a little bit further.

Shouldn't complain because just east of me got 2-3 inches of snow yesterday, so it could be worse.
 
I sure wish yall were close to me I got another farmer that sold out and has 80 acres of hay he wants me to cut but hes like 25 miles from me told him didnt really want to do it cause I gotta drag equipment back and forth and truly didn't have time. He told me I understand but you can use my equipment and mow it said not gonna charge me as long as I keep it cut when its supposed too. I told him I will cut it for him this year and see how it goes he also said I can use his barns for storage. He just asked if I could leave 10 bales for his horses and his 2 cows. The hay is already waist high.
 
We just had a hard frost 2 nights in a row, so that will definetly hurt everyone's hay around here. At least what hay ground that hasn't been torn up, and farmed. More grass is being killed every year here. My brome/fescue is about ankle high and getting heads on it. Luckily I had plenty of carry over from last year to hopefully get me by.
 
I'm going to start cutting this afternoon. Neighbor started yesterday. That's unusual for him, he's one of those volume vs quality guys. I'm just the opposite. But he doesn;t have any stored hay and I still have at least a years worth (I hope) in the barn.

Looks like we are going to have some good hay cutting weather this week got about 75 acres to get done. My wife is getting ready to give birth to our first son today. I have been telling her all day she better hurry so we can get home by Wednesday so I can get started lol

My daughter had a baby girl today. We hung around for a while and then my husband went back out cutting. Just checked on him and he was going round and round...Good luck on your baby..When you gotta make hay, you gotta make hay.
 
This year was my first year baling and I baled my wheat about 3 weeks ago. Aside from my baler not being I guess centered to the twine arms it went pretty smooth. Here's a few pics of my bales, they are not perfect but they will do.
Couldn't figure out how to put less end wraps.

I think I kinda got the baling thing down we'll see how it goes on my haygrazer field later this year.
 
I took my baler in to the dealer last fall for off-season sevice and they haven't touched it yet. :roll: Stopped and visited the dealer yesterday while I was in town and they said they will get to it soon.

The baler has about 6000 bales through it on the original belts and some of the belt splices look a bit weak. The main thing I'm thinking of is the baler should probably have the belts cut off and new splices. Other than that, just a general going over and fix anything it looks like it might need.

My baler is 14 yrs old. The shiny new balers are sure pretty in this color :heart: Sort of semi-seriously asked the dealer if I could trade up for $10K :idea: Of course the answer was No :lol:

Our hay season is still about 3 weeks away but will be here before we know it. :nod:
