Hay prices in your area

Help Support CattleToday:

A month ago it was 65-85 for a 5x6 round bale. Now you can;t give it away

I'm thinking about about shipping some out there, if the price is right, the hay is really an orchard grass and fescue mix

hay prices have dropped here as well.most of whats left is $40 to $60 a bale for all sizes of round bales.an if you know where to look you can get hay for $30 a bale.

Here ya go.

4x5's of grass are going from $100 to 145. Big bales with alfalfa or big squares will run you $250-350/ton. :help:

 :( sad to say but this is the truth up here this time of year... spring has been VERY slow in springing!!!!

Good grass hay 5x5 will run $30-40 here. Good alfalfa same size bale will be $50.

I am short of hay (about 20-30 bales needed) , but the trees are leafing out and the grass is turning green in places. Cows are already in the fields picking like crazy.

I might just luck out and have enough feed!

I feel guilty. Just talked to my "hay" guy today about the up-coming year. We always talk price once per year, usually early spring, and then don't discuss it again until the following year. This year will be $20-$22 per 4x5 bale delivered next to my barn....but the pasture he makes the hay for me is adjacent to my property, so he'd rather drop it at my barn then load it on a trailer and haul off. Good guy; we normally "horse trade" calves/heifers back and forth. This is for mixed Bermuda/Bahia. I've also sent him a bunch of business; I guess he figures he can just break even with my small needs.

am i reading your post right.your buying hay for $22 a bale to your place.thats not even covering the cost of baling cost of standing grass or a small fee for putting it up to your barn.

Last month we paid $109. a 5x6 bale of fertilized, irrigated, weed-free bermuda delivered from producer about 60-75 miles away. I doubt seriously that quality hay (14 to 16% CP) will go down this year. We've been stung more than once by "unknown" suppliers. Couple of years ago we bought several semi-loads of Alfalfa/Orchard Grass from Canada delivered for LESS than what we were stung for in Oklahoma for Brome...go figure!
