Cattle Sprayer Trailer

They look pretty suspicious of it. Did you get them to use it yet?
No, I just hauled it out there and left it next the salt and mineral where they hang out. Im going fishing next week so they have time to just get use to seeing it, smelling it, etc. It will be a little process to get them using it Im sure. There are a couple cows in there that will follow me any where with a bag of cubes so Im hoping they will lead the others through.

I may also hang their fly bag in it because they are us to walking through stuff where that fly bag hangs.

If I can remember Im going to try to document what t takes to get them to use it, the good amd the bad, so every one can see an honest review of it. For the price, people need to see what it takes to make it actually work, imo.

I suppose it's meant to be placed in a gate leading to their water source or pasture rotation.
Yes. In that pasture that pond is the main water source plus I have all their salt and mineral there. They lay around kn the trees. When I get ready to force them to use it I wil box in maybe an acre or two with my portable hot wire to make a water/ loafing trap. It will be the only entrance/exit.

When we go to a complete different pasture we may set up up at gates.

Its pretty quick and easy to move. Ive made a few adaptions and will probably do a couple more to help with moving.

Exactly. That obviously means that you have to be concentrating them into a single animal width lane. That means traffic, on one spot. For an extended period of time generally. And that means "dead grass" at the very least, and potentially mud, if you've got rain (I know... I've read those posts about "You've got actual water falling from the sky???"). That said, if you're like me, with tire tanks for water... they have to concentrate around them too... which also leads to bare spots. I improve those though by putting down 1 1/2" screened rock around that tank. and of course, you'll have to be moving it from place to place and setting up your "control fence" at each new area... which means several (or potentially many) of these kinds of areas. That's one of the reasons that I PREFER those tire tank waterers... I have relatively few of them (6), with each improved with that rock base. I sure wouldn't want to create a "concentrated traffic area" like that for each of "daily moves".

Sound's like @Brute 23 mostly has a limited number of areas where it will be used, so he could pretty easily create "improved areas" to accomodate it.

I've thought about this kind of thing too, so I'm not bashing on anybody. And I think it's a great idea, if you're planning on spraying for flies. Just recognizing and then verbalizing some of the potential downsides that may come with it.

Our soils dont get boggy like that plus we are never in one pasture more than a few weeks. That was the major benefit of being portable for me is you dont have to set it up in the same spot every time.

This one will be used on like 10 pastures in a little less than 4 mile strip. Some are already set up for it but some will require a little poly wire.

Our big issue is ticks, not so much flies. The is the closest thing to dipping a cow you can get... and its portable. Its very costly bringing the animals up just to spray for ticks and flies. You are automating the spaying process right. No one has to be there for it to do it's job. It doesn't matter if the pasture is wet and I cant get in or if Im on vacation... its going to be working.

I also plan to put a cell cam over it.

I like the idea of a camera. You might find them running through it to cool off... :)

There is a youtube video where a calf is getting left because he is hesitant to go through it. Finnally he makes a run at it and dives through the opening while doing a buck in the air. 🤣 Its pretty funny.
