I have always heard that if you cut hay and it rains on it before it is cured that it really doesnt hurt it . Is this true? I know its not ideal, but looking at cutting today with a small chance of showers this afternoon.

Depends on how much rain and if you can get it dried before it starts to slime. The major problem as I see it is the extra time and fuel to get it dried enough to bale.

That depends on WHEN you've cut it, like if you cut it then it rains an hour later it won't hurt it. But, if it rains when it is just about ready for baling, then you're running into problems, because you might loose hay quality.

I will cut if there is rain forcast for that night. Thunderstorms and heavy rain though seems to pound the hay to the ground and it is hard to dry, but a light rain doesn't hurt.

I figure if it is cut and on the ground when nice weather is supposed to come it gives me an extra day of draying verse just finishing cutting at the end of a nice day.

Hay was dry and ready to bale. We're now in a gulley washer so that pretty well writes off that chapter

I just couldnt stand it, started cutting late this evening, made 4 rounds, not a dropof rain.Anybody want to go to vegas?

If the hay isn't cured, you will not lose anything. If its cured and ready to bale, nutrients can be leached from the hay plus its just a big pain in the you know what. Good Luck.

Almost done, 4 breakdowns and cut my thumb to the bone, gotta love it. WHAT do hay haulers make in your area ? Im supplying the truck, when Ihauled the last time it was.05cts per bale but thats been 25yrs

Last time I had square bales hauled (my truck and trailer) and put in the barn it cost me $.50/bale. Now they tell me it's $.75/bale. Just another reason I don't mess with square bales.

I'm baling 13 acres this weekend if the weather holds. Hope I don't have too many breakdowns. Baler and rake are ready to go and the mower is new some I'm hoping I don't have any trouble with it.

Good luck on yours.
