1986 I was fishing off the pier in Naples when someone inadvertently hooked a manatee which fortunately unhooked itself and got away. Meanwhile, I hooked a pelican and I had to get help to get that off the line. :help:

Ive hooked several pelicans offshore while trolling. Its like flying a kite with a mind of its own.
They are strong sobs tho and will beat the poo outta you while you try to save them. I got tired of it and just started cutting lines as close to the hook as i wanted to depending on the attitude of the bird.
