I'm sorry but I have to brag on my #2 son. Here is a photo of him at the Mayo Clinic where he has been assisting in prostrate cancer research which may be published later this year if it passes the peer review board. What's amazing is he is not even a doctor yet but he will be given some credit in the research if published - which should be helpful to him and his career. He is now hooked on cancer research and robotic surgery so in a few short years he may be cutting on someone we know. I have to say he is brilliant. Kinda odd when your children become smarter than you.

You must be very proud and, you probably could never ask for anything more. It shows the quality of the mentor when the student surpasses him. Wonder if his mother deserves the credit... :lol: :hide:

My cousin is a Neuro researcher at YNHH in Connecticut , he says the work is very rewarding.

my two girls surpassed me a long time ago. but they have never forgot where they came from, and I'm sure your lad wont either Jo.

One of my wife's cousins has prostate cancer. Fine man with a fine family. They just returned from Mayo a few days ago where they had gone for a consultation and will be having surgery done there within the next month. Thank your fine son for us. Even if he's not directly involved in this case, it's people like him that spend lifetimes saving the lives of good people.
 
Van, for what its worth, my son cannot speak highly enough about that facility or the doctors in it. Caleb explained the robotic surgery is best for this since this area of the body has so many nerve bundles that don't need to be severed. In the past they would just cut through these nerves to fix things but this could leave the patient impotent after surgery. Their research has been focused on preventing this by cutting around these microscopic bundles with the lazer and fixing everything with minimal damage. They have also have been focused on repairing impotency problems in patients who were worked on prior to this new technology. He told me it is simply amazing what they can do at that facility and the doctors are simply brilliant and in it for the right reasons.

It's worth a lot, Jo. Scott's family has been very impressed so far and are sure he's getting the best care possible.

As it turns out, I have another connection to Mayo. My best friend, whom I had known since 2nd grade, had lung cancer and died there in 1997. His family were also very impressed with the care he received and the way everyone was treated. They did everything they could. It was just too far advanced when they discovered it. Again, give your son thanks from all of us. You should be very proud.
