That's Gimli in the middle for a size comparison. I have two chromed up bull calves. To the right of Gimli is a Broadway that also came out with chrome. Gimli was a 30 day premature calf, that or genetics accounts for his small size. The bull calves will stay bulls until weaning. At that time, all calves will have had their second Covexin 8 which includes the tetani toxoid. I halter train all 14 calves. I handle them as a group, so they get exposed to the halter.

Bull calves? You still haven't done what needed and should of been done shortly after birth. And are you making excuses for the little one being a dwarf calf, or coming up with a sales pitch? I have a neighbor that has miniature horse that would probably love to have that little guy. Miniature Herefords sell great, just think how well a miniature black Hereford will sell.

Cute little feller. I'd leave him intact. Put him on CL in 7-8 months and he'd be one of the first ones sold. There are enough people fooling with cattle just because they love it and not because they care to make anything from it that this little bull will find a good home based solely on personality.

Thank you, sir. I leave them all intact until weaning. You are correct. There are some old guys not far from you and I that select for the chrome Simmentals. Mike Carter is one, he has been here. Bought an In Force heifer bred to Uno Mas. He was hoping for lots of white. Unfortunately, she lost her calf. He said she was fine. Went down and the calf was dead. He and his wife are in their mid 70s. They love Venus.

It is a free country. People can breed what they like.

Wow. Come on Grit, loosen up a bit. It's not immoral to sell and purchase cattle that you like. It may or may not be the most profitable route, but if you are enjoying yourself then who cares.

One screw ball can harm a lot of folks when comes to selling bulls. Selling a queer at the sale barn as a feeder doesn't hurt much, but let that queer bred and produce offspring you get more queers. It doesn't take many to screw things up. The Angus and Hereford folks have been fighting this battle for years.

Just saw this. I been out all evening singing Christmas Carols. Got home and braved a bad night of weather to tuck little Gimli into his little bed of hay. I come in and read this. There are no words to express my grief. All I can say is the deal with your neighbor is off. When Gimli finds out you called him a queer, he will be so demoralized that he will never want to breed a cow.

Oh I get it now. I didn't realize that he was queer.. Obviously Raven should castrate him ASAP.. I just thought he was a bit short.. A queer bull will definitely not be profitable.. Maybe he can be a show steer..Might have a good prance.

I had a person tell me this week he wanted a bull that would mature around 1,500 lbs. There likely be someone who likes him. Also please tell me how you know he is queer.

There's more than one use of that word. And have no idea of the calves sexuality, but I do know he's a queer. I also know he has no business breeding or being registered. What happens down the road no one knows, but I'd sure be disappointed if one of my cows had a calf that looked like that. I still think he's a pretty neat looking calf, but he ain't no herd builder.

There is nothing stated in this thread as to the disposition of poor little Queer Gimli. All my male calves remain intact until after two rounds of Covexin 8 which prepares them for a defense against tetanus. At weaning or post-weaning a decision on their disposition will be rendered.

Polled Hereford Sire, probably the lbw Sensation or About Time genetics popular with the semen outfits. You were sent a mislabeled straw. The shape of the head and the nose are Hereford. Hereford will turn the nose pink, too. You can take his halter off, there is no way you can ethically sell him as a 4H animal or as a bull.

It happens. Just be glad it wasn't a pecan tree you planted 10 years ago that was grafted with the wrong scion wood. Lol

John. Because he was 30 days early and this cow was a rebreed. Kris suggested that I submit a Blood DNA parentage sample. It came back HPF OPTIMIZER!

Semen was purchased from Select Sires as a whole cane of 10 straws.
