Here are shots of his Replacement Heifers and feedlots which David visited.

Ron, we have our replacements at home. The feedlot photos are all calves we either raised this summer or bought a month ago. We lost one at the lot first off but health is good now and they are doing we. Target is 850 lbs in late April. We will forward contract them sometime in late January or early February.

The replacements will meet bulls next summer and have there chance to stay a while longer.

When converted to US dollar your slaughter cows are lots higher than here.

Hey Kenny, the first two groups there were young feeder cows. Thinking some year end tax dollars are floating around.

We got about $12,000 more for the load than we would have a month ago. Paid to keep them and feed 15 lbs of screenings pellets for a month. Sometimes you win.

The prices aren't close even with 25% taken off?

I converted the price to US and your still way higher than Here. I maybe seen 2 cows yesterday bring over .40 us. If Google converted correctly that's like .53 can.

Kenny your market is just in the toilet. I watched ours on Thursday and most of the cows sold in the 50's or at least the high 40's. I took a real sorry cow to not make 40 cents.

Is the US importing a lot of hamburger beef? This discrepancy in price seems out of line. Low cow prices are so bad they are distorting the market around here. It takes a good cow to bring 40 cents.

We need to send a load of cull cows to Canada.

The last few months have seen 10s of thousands of US feeder cattle imigrating north. Has had a negative factor on our markets. Hope you guys will accept these displaced US feeders when they come back as Canadian fats.

What do cows in your area weigh live on average Kenny?

Probably 1100-1200 .

Fat cows under 1150 are discounted by several pennies here. Costs the same to kill a light cow as a heavier one.

I am sure not in Canada but I have a cull cow market similar to Dave's. It must have something to do with capacity at the kill plants in the east and volume moving to market. I realize that at least some of that meat would be shipped west but that is added freight and buyers would adjust accordingly. Once again it takes a pretty sorry cow to drop below 40 cents.

Sad thing is our local kill and processing facilities are between Kenny and myself. It's only 3 or 4 hours from the sale barn to the slaughter house for our cull cows I think we're just getting screwed.

What do cows in your area weigh live on average Kenny?

Cull cows were 10¢ higher here a month ago. And about 14¢ higher when we shipped in late October. Sure glad we didn't hold 'em.
