With funeral cost approaching between 12000 and 15000 dollars and a cremation cost of about 2500 dollars. Question being would you rather be cremated and returned to dust are put into the ground to rot through years and years to end in the same place. What drives our need to spend so much to bury someone. Told my daughter when my life ends to cremate and buy a load of fertilizer and blend the ashes and spread at least I would accomplish something than tie up a piece of real estate for a grave for ever and ever.

Definitely cremation for me. I do want a headstone though with a biodegradable urn buried so my ashes go back to the earth.

This an emotional decision not a rational one at the time of death of ones family members.
Emotions trump rational every time.

Unless you having an open bar at your memorial service there's no need to spend $2500 for your cremation. The wife and I are shopping for cremation services now and finding you can get cremated and an urn for less than a grand. Heck, buy your urn from Walmart.

i just went thru this and gave my wife a great funeral viewing and cremation...cost me about 6000$...keepskaes for her family cost me another 1200(thumbies)...florida seems cheaper than alotta places.ohio I know is waaay more

A simple Pine Box Casket and getting buried in the church cemetery is good enough for me! There was an Elder from the church who passed recently from cancer... He knew he had less than a year to live and I thought it was awesome that he built his own casket... it was a simple design yet meant more to the family knowing he built it himself.

Hurley, I just spoke to a place in Lewisville and they'll cremate you for $695. Your ashes go into a temporary box or your urn.

Done the same way here as well lots of family cemeteries back in the woods with no plot cost as well.
Buried both my parents in 02 for 12k in the family cemetery my biggest cost was transportation 180 miles one way.
In Texas only a licensed mortician can transport the body and they charge by the mile round trip.

I like the building of your own casket. Hopefully the coroner will come to house, confirm that I'm dead and my family will bury me under the closest deer feeder behind the house. Nothing fancy just get it over and done with ASAP. It's the government I worry about, my family knows my wishes and hopefully they'll stick to them.

Ashes, scattered around the ranch. Same with my husband and we've made it very clear in the Trust.
