Another short crop year but the bush grass is quite good. The thieves don’t care, they just help themselves to the tame stuff.

When I was a teenager, I went to Grandads place to help with hay. I think it was May or June. As I passed his barn, I noticed his tractor there so I stopped. Went inside and he was skinning a buck (in velvet, in summer). I asked him what/why. He said he was getting his corn back.

With the drought conditions here, we are seeing deer out in the fields in the middle of the day... have seen 4 killed along the road in the past 2 days . They are chowing down on any and everything...
I cannot imagine dealing with the elk like you do...

When I was about 12 my Grandpa shot a deer who had been eating his raspberry's. I remember on opening day of deer season Grandpa and I were sitting on the tailgate of the pickup eat roast deer sandwiches. The game warden drove by. I was certain we were going to be busted. Probably a good thing the warden didn't stop. As a kid I would probably spilled my guts about Grandpa's out of season deer.

I have only had a little bit here and there but thought it had a really good flavor. I just had it ground up too, it wasn't steaks or any thing. Must be all that good eatin they get.

About the only legal options we have is to allow hunting. Which we do. But on a good year maybe a dozen or so get taken (it’s amazing how many bad hunters there are) so it’s a losing battle.

About what i expected. Here we can get a kill permit for deer. But you would be surprised how few get killed.

After 2 mild winters the deer are thick here. We need a good harsh winter to knock the population back.

We have some whitetails around here. So far they have not been a problem, just not that many of them.
