Foot in Mouth...

Have you ever felt like you should have just kept your mouth shut?
I have never actually been know as Mr. Sensitivity... But some of the questions I have asked or comments I have made... Nothing mean spirited, but still...
An example would be like asking a friend that, you haven't seen in awhile, "Hey, how's you mom and dad doing?" Only to find out one or both of them have passed away...
Or (like I did earlier this year) "What do you do with your left over hay?" Then you find out other didn't have enough hay to get through this last winter... Sometimes I feel like I should shove that one foot over so that I can get the other one in along side...

I do it all the time then I worry about it and call the person and start explaining. Thankfully most people know I didn't mean it the way it came out. I really don't ever want to hurt anybody's feelings. I could never be a politician cuz I don't talk purty enough.

A career politician in my town was campaigning. This politician was of the same political affiliation as my parents, attended the same church as my parents, had been a student of my mother's when he attended college.

He approached me and asked how my mother was. I was shocked, as my mother had died 2 years previously. I told him that. I will quote verbatim his response. "No she's not...I saw her in church 2 Sundays ago." The man literally stood there and argued with me that my mother was still alive.

His campaign manager was with him...another good Methodist and former student of my mothers. I watched the blood drain from his face. He finally grabbed the politician's arm and said, "____, yes she is. You and I attended her funeral."

So, Just Curious and Gate Opener, your faux pas are forgiveable...I still haven't forgiven the politican's.

Those examples are all innocent, I mean you didn't know to begin with so they shouldn't be offended. Now if you forgot, and still asked that would be different.

This is a classic I can think of, when I was pregnant with my son, about 9 years ago, after I had him I went to this local store, I use to go to, and this girl came up to me and said cute baby, is it yours? I didn't even know you were pregnant? meaning I guess she just thought I was on the fat side or something, because I had just seen her a few weeks prior to that. I can't remember what I said in response but she did turn a nice shade of beet red!!

i'm terrible about that. like just the other day i went out to eat with one of my friends from college and i asked her how her friend, blank, is. apparently blank had committed suicide 2 months earlier and she had been really distraught about it (i later learned). talk about awkward.

Ya know sometimes there is no accounting for what comes out of your mouth.. and for what you don't know.
Just appoligise and listen..
My brother saw an old schoolmate, said "How are things going with you" The week before, her boyfriend had killed her daughter.. All he could do was sit with her while she cryed an talked.
At least you didn't do that..

Friend of mine who worked in a small town and lives in the country was driving in a much larger city. He got a ticket for driving at night with no headlights. He hadn't turned them on. He decided he had nothing to lose in trying to get the ticket 'fixed'. So he called the district attorney-they did not know each other and he certainly was not a voter there.

When he told the DA his name and asked if he could help him,the DA told him how glad he was to hear from him and asked how his mother an father were doing.
He told the DA his parents were doing just fine.
The DA said he was glad to hear that, and to tell his folks hello for him. He told him to just send him the ticket.

The ticket was taken care of.

As a side note, he had tried to explain to the policeman that he should not give him a ticket to start with. He told him he was from the country and it was dark there and with all these street lights in town, he really didn't need his headlights.

Oh my Lord... A double hit!
I have five daughters and, of course, my wife. I have never learned how to deal with a crying woman... No sensitivity training at an early age I guess...
Then again I can't braid my hair either... What a disappointment that was when the movie "Braveheart" came out! :D

I'll light an extra candle at church for you!

Good to know I'm not the only one who's said something they've wished they could take back... :P

I think that's why I enjoy the forum so much. It's easy to think before you "speak" on here, and if you accidently post something that you change your mind about, you can delete the whole thing. :lol2:

I saw a woman at the store I had not seen in years. I looked down at her belly and innocently asked when she was expecting. Well she wasn't. I could have crawled in a hole. I still feel bad about that.

Yep that is never a good thing to do, when in doubt, shut zip the lips.

Some time back i felt really bad, I lived by and was friends with a set of Triplet boys, Gary, Larry, and Terry. Larry was killed in a car wreck a few years ago. I attended the funeral and everything. But one day I saw his parents and asked how Larry and Terry were doing. I meant to say Gary and Terry.

I felt really bad and knew what I had did as soon as the look on their faces changed :(

I said to a neighbor "Did I see a pregnant woman at your house?"
He replied "I sure hope not".
Yes, his wife is fat. I really didn't mean to bring it up.

Asked the wife that the other day, she did not like it very much. I thought it was an honest question. I was afraid we might be having another baby. But fortunately it was not my fault it was Taco Bells fault

Oh yeah! I suffer from chronic foot 'n mouth disease. Occasionally only one, but usually both, and usually up to the hip.

I had a guy at the bakery who never got the chance to realize he'd put his foot in his mouth. My husband and I were getting coffee and I had just gotten done coaching a softball game. So, I'm in softball shorts, t-shirt, and sports sandals with my hair in a pony, no makeup - you get the idea. The guy behind the bakery counter asked a question my husband (thankfully) didn't hear. When he asked, "What?" I said, "He asked if we wanted to try a sample." We tried some samples, but I couldn't help giggling while we did. My husband kept asking me what was so funny and I told him I'd tell him when we got to the car.

On the way to the car he asked me again so I told him. "Honey, the guy behind the counter asked if you and your daugher would like to try a sample!"
