Flies are Horrible this year

I guess with the winter and spring we are having must be perfect weather for the cycle.
If I could get my neighbor to come a sign of a herd health program would save me a bundle.
Really doesn't do me a lot of good to treat with IGR's with no program across the fence.

We have the flies bad here also. Our big fly free plan isn't working. We started with the IGR mineral in February, fly tags in late March and been spraying between rains. Hopefully the cycle will break shortly.

Since horn and faceflys don;t cover much ground (except when hitchhiking on the cow) IGR will make some difference even of the neighbor doesn;t have a fly program.

We haven't used IGR in years, but are putting it out everywhere this year. We got a ton of the IGR + medicated wind and rain, plus a bunch of the smaller mineral tubs with IGR. We have been putting tubs in a lot of pastures to make sure they are eating enough, and top dressing with the loose mineral so they have to eat all of that before they get to the good stuff. Not many flies yet...i think they all washed away in the flood!!!!!!

I still like my vet gun, keeps the flys off for about 30 days, cost around 1.50$ per head each time you do it.

Yeah I want to bring mine up and spray them but it has been raining so much. I use to us IGR but like CB my neighbors don't so seemed pointless.

Denver I have looked and looked at one and think man that could be fun as well.
What keeps me from pulling the trigger on one is my mind keeps asking are you
going to make these Brimmer girls high headed. Mine are not easy to get in a day or two
after Ivomec. They don't like the chute gates closing.

Road down to Georgetown this weekend and took the back roads most of the way. Seems every herd of cattle I saw was all gathered up in a big wad and stomping the ground trying to get away from the flies.

CB I worry about the same thing with my Beefmasters. My cows are fairly gentle not going to let you pet them, but they don't run off when you are ridding among them. I am just not sure what would happen if I started shooting them with that vetgun.

Might be, but I wouldn't bet on it. I have a few high headed cows mixed in and doing it every month has worked fine for me, doesn't seem to bother them very much, most of mine don't act like they even feel it, and then some do.

Here too. I hate that annoying sound they make in your ear. I think all the bugs are out in force this year. Lots of fire ants, wasp, mosquitos, flies, and nats. Can't wait for the grasshoppers and dirt dobbers. I think I am going to have to get me some ridding goggles every time I go check the cows on the 4wheeler I have bugs hitting me in the eye that crap burns. I really want to try the vetgun. I may have to see what the return policy is at Buzzbees in Waco I saw a banner advertising the vetgun last time I was there.

I don't own one, but I've seen them demonstrated------I doubt the vet gun would bother them much more than a big ol horsefly punchin a hole in their hides.

Flies aren't too bad here right now, but go in the wood parts of my place and the skeeters will descend like a double squadron of jap zeros. I need to get my rubs out yesterday.

We are putting a movable turkey hutch in the pasture this year with 75 turkeys to see if we can convert the nuisance of bugs into dinner / profit. We will move it so it's either a little bit ahead or a little bit behind the cattle. I have no idea if it'll work ... we'll see ...

I would like to just see a wild turkey again.
Can tell you this here you would need an armed guard.
I wore out a 22 and model 12 trying to keep the Mrs. banny chickens
from becoming bobcat, coon, coyote, dog, cat, possum, and most every other kinda critter turds.
